Absolutely agree with the article. While I generally like the new MBP and like unifying with an interface that supports anything from TB3 speeds down to lowly USB2, the mess of adaptors is an accident waiting to happen.
While the adaptors are unavoidable, given the price of the new MBP, they should include one of each or a dock with each. The moment one goes missing during a job… too much at stake.

Personally I’m happy to see Apple getting “back on track” with FCP marketing. Good to see it at their big event and good to hear they’re talking things up publicly now.

You shouldn’t have to piece them together unless you broke the folder structure. Import from the parent folder created in the camera.
First step would be to create Camera Archive from the camera card.
Next you’d import from the Camera Archive.If you’ve pulled the media files out of the folder structure, the metadata that joins them is gone.

Looking at last nights FCP Virtual User Group 8 at about 45:00 to about 50:00 Sam Mestman explains the use of roles. As we’ve noted if you go from Sub Roles back to Roles in the Inspector you lose the FX on the Sub Roles. He seems to say though, that if you instead make another Compound Clip, you then can add FX to Roles, not losing the Sub Roles information. Of course I could be misinterpreting this. His argument is that with this much granularity it may obviate the need to go into a DAW in some cases.

I watched the tutorial and as I understand if you go from Subroles back to Roles you lose the FX applied to the Subroles just as you describe. Basically it’s either Parent and Roles or Parent and Subroles, not Parent, Roles, Subroles.
Paul you may need to clarify if you’re finding otherwise. Perhaps post a screencast showing it.

Confirmed that neither Switch 3.1 and VLC 2.2.4 can’t play it.
You should contact Telestream about the Switch incompatibility. I certainly will. -
Telestream Switch it’s meant for broadcast quality QC and it starts at Free. Broadcast professionals will pay the $295 though for the advanced QC features. It’s cross platform.

Why would that warrant the “Hello…” marketing given what it indicated when first used?

Do you still have a need for analog out for monitoring?
Otherwise you might look at Blackmagic Ultrastudio MiniMonitor. Thunderbolt to HDMI or SDI out.Perhaps the Ultrastudio Express Thunderbolt to HDMI or analog breakout would be better for you.
