F4 and I was probably 15 feet from the stage.

Granted the aperture presents its limits but I’ve been able to get shallow DOF with distance camera to subject and subject to background.

Singer in focus but the person just a few feet behind her is out of focus and the buildings across the street even further out of focus. I was in first row with other media.

This with PXW-X70 which is the same sensor at the Z150

  • Modern codecs and with modern bandwidth these are becoming much less of an issue. Banding can be a problem at lower data rates. Yet, noise can result in less efficient encoding since encoders are designed to remove information that is similar from frame to frame to reduce size.

It’s not a conflict, it’s a juggle. You make the aesthetic decision by running test encodes. If vary by content and by distribution method. Vimeo and YouTube can deliver very high data rates so this is much less of an issue these days. If your source is good and you upload 720, 1080, UHD files and service recommended data rates, issues relating to banding or noise are much rarer. Since they’re going to crush whatever you give them, sometimes it’s hard to improve given their ultimate control.

[Oliver Peters] “If you work in a true collaborative environment – defined as 2-4+ editors on the SAME project – nothing touches Avid.”

Which makes me wonder how a free feature limited version of Media Composer has an sales value. Perhaps this is their dilemma and, in part, the reason for the long delayed release.

While Avid didn’t write the headline, I think the mentioned Nexis integration is far more important.
Why is free Media Composer even being considered?

True. Why would one want to use a crippled version of MediaComposer when they can get a fully functional Resolve for free. At best a free Media Composer becomes nothing more than a trial for someone who may have a motivation to move up to paid/subscription. This may well be another ill timed Avid move. Consider that by the time Free MC is out Resolve may have yet another update further improving its editing tools.

While it has some interesting features I wonder why it’s not integrated into Camera which also records video (and photos).
