You’re not likely to match the cameras just by using the same number profile.
I’d recommend using a proper video color test chart and use a profile as default on one camera and modify the other to match. You’d probably want to look at output on scopes.

Otherwise shoot the chart on location and match them in post creating a setting you can apply to the shots.

Create a New User Admin account. Make sure there are no Login items (things that run as soon as you log in). Reboot the computer and log in to the new user account and then open FCPX.

Had an EX1 and sold it and bought an X70 a while back.
I still generally deliver 1080 but I use 4K for shot reposition and stabilization in post.

    The interesting tidbit here is

…there are companies and even TV shows (See House of Cards) that continue to use it on a day to day basis. Those companies now either need to stop updating their OS or move on from Final Cut.

House of Cards was being cut on FCP7?!!!

Hmm, I ran into another issue, severe luma clamping before applying any processing. It simply hard clamped luma to 100 when applying Chromatic. Even changing their “illegal Colors” to “Do Not Clamp” had no relief.
With 24 hours after I reported it they acknowledged it. Said they believe it may be related to the specific GPU (Late 2013 Mac Pro with AMD FirePro 500 in my case). In about 3 days they had a build for me which fixed the issue.

Given what you’re seeing you should send them screenshots using the same source with CG and Chromatic with only the lut applied. Include Before and After scopes as well. I’d also include the GPU just in case that’s a factor.

  • Apple Compressor costs all of $50.
I love Telestream Switch but mostly using it for QC work.

  • How about Handbrake?
For compatibility you may need to use Baseline Profile. I believe some point during the use of Windows Media Player 7, it became H.264 .mp4 compatible.

  • My guess is that MPEG StreamClip uses legacy Quicktime Frameworks and not AVFoundation and that’s the reason it’s not compatible with High Sierra. Development of StreamClip stoped around 2012 with beta 1.9.3. Release 1.9.2 was in 2008.

It can be time consuming especially if you’re not entirely familiar with all the tweaks possible in the X70 PP settings. Using scopes though helps you see the results of what each tweak does. Trying to eyeball would be maddening.

Sometimes the easier thing is just shoot the Video Chart (takes just a few seconds) and you can create a profile in your color correction software. You do want to make sure the exposure is correct during the shoot because if one camera highlights are blown out or one is deep in noise in the shadows, they won’t really match. It’s much easier to match a chart on scopes in your NLE than trying to eyeball a shot. Even a straight shot without the chart can be done if both cameras are pointed at the same shot. You can create a split screen in post to compare one camera to the other. The challenge is that the lighting may not match given the different angles during the shoot.
