[Marcus Moore] “Let’s not confuse trainers with beta testers for Apple, who help the dev team work thru bugs and workflow issues; and who see the software well before reviewers and trainers.”

True although I’d imagine “some” trainers such as Ripple Training may well be beta testers. I’m Radical Media Evan Schechtman is a beta tester. He spoke at CCW and I think he exuded that beta tester scent. My spidey was that collaborative workflow would be up to facility standards. Of course many of use are making educating guesses on that.

[John Davidson] “It’s really important that these deliver and bill before the end of the year so that small biz’s like our can write them off in our 2013 taxes. “

[John Davidson] “Should I get a 6 core for editing and 12 core for graphics? Based on benchmarks that would get the best performance for each task, right?”

While 4 and 6 core models say coming December in Apple Store, 8 and 12 core not listed at all. I can’t help but think they’d be up by now if pricing and availability were going to be this month. Even if the pricing goes online my gut says they won’t be immediately available for the end of year tax write off.

[Marcus Moore] “Most of the trainers don’t get early access to the maintenance releases.”

I could have sworn Larry mentioned not having advanced info on the next big feature release at a LACPUG meeting so he was free to speculate.

[Marcus Moore] “Apple isn’t worried about the “Holiday rush” on MacPro and FCPX sales, it’s a special case.”

Although some of us business are looking for some tax deductions and buying in December vs January is a major tax decision.

Now that Wirecast 5 is out I’ll be doing a few more in the near future.

[Andre van Berlo] “can I record each camera(3-4 DSLR’s) to ssd separately with wirecast? “

ISO recording? Matrox VS4 Wirecast Windows only at the moment.

Of course if a video in has pass through (MiniRecorder doesn’t) you may be able to pass through to recording devices.

BTW I’ll likely be getting the new 6 Core as well. I have no worries about the number of HD cameras it can handle. Its small size means I can bring it to an on location job and get far more power than a laptop.

[Craig Seeman]

[Andre van Berlo] “The telestream website states that for streaming 3 cameras with wirecast & recording them to disk you need a minimum of an 8 core computer. “

The website makes recommendations. There’s no 8 core minimum.
You can easily stream 3 HD cameras with 4 cores if you keep it to 720p. 1080p may push it.

[Andre van Berlo] “Does that mean that the new 6 core mac pro + wirecast will easily handle 3-4 cameras and stream them to the web while recording the stream to disk?”

Newer processors are far more capable than older processors. A MacPro “Tube” with 4 cores will be much more powerful than a 2008 MacPro with 8 cores in most cases.

Personally I suspect a 6 core MacPro Tube will probably handle 4 HD cameras, quite possibly at 1080 both streaming and recording (to an external Thunderbolt or USB3 drive).
