Without looking at the source and the export settings it’s hard to provide a solution. When I consult and bump into these issues, I have the client FTP me the source. Both Compression Master and Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD do good WMV encoding on the Mac. I haven’t noted any “Jumpy” issues that weren’t settings related.

There could be another issue lurking here. I usually find the bitrate within 5% of the target. If anything, it tends to be slightly under rather than over with CBR encodes.

You can’t use Quicktime Player to judge the bitrate of a WM file. If you use WMP9Mac it will show the peak rather than avg. bit rate. Best it check bitrate in WMP10 (XP) or ASFView (on Windows also).

There’s a real need to check WM bit rate on the Mac.

Seems confused. What is the audio codec (different than data rate)?
24 bit? If this is audio I really need complete information. Above you say 16 bit.
If there’s a bug in audio export I’d know it. I beat the thing to death. I’m a heavy user. There certainly can be issues with audio export but it’s not with WMA Standard, 44kHz, Stereo.

What is “latest version” of Flip4Mac? Haven’t seen a 2.etc version myself.
Do you have Player Pro, Studio, Studio Pro, Studio Pro HD?
Exactly what is contained in the file you’re trying to Export (There are many WM variants)?

Generally it should work so you’re bumping into an issue.

What version of Flip4Mac do you have? You should be on 2.0.2.10
You need to have Flip4Mac Player Pro and up. The free player doesn’t have import into FCP ability.

Flip4Mac wraps the wmv in mov (It’s still wmv on the “inside”) so Quicktime apps can handle it a bit better. You can simply import the wmv into FCP though without wrapping it in mov.

You might have to toss preferences (Quicktime and FCP) if you’re getting a “not enough memory” prompt.

Is this happening on desktop playback?

If online it could be a peak data rate issue. Try doing 2 Pass VBR Constrained or CBR encode and see if you still have the issue.
What is your data rate on the file?

Please post link to file. I don’t know what you mean by “jumpy.”
Frame rate, interlace, droped frames, buffering, etc., can’t tell without seeing the patient.

Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD does 2 Pass VBR, exports out of FCP (as well as QuicktimePro and Compressor) and costs a lot less than Compression Master (which has many more codecs but if you’re just looking for WM 2 Pass VBR it may sufice). The Universal exporter should be ready in a fews weeks since it’s already in beta.

Are you exporting as DV/DVCPRO NTSC AVI (or DV PAL AVI as the case may be)? That should work.
