Starting to make sense now. The angle editor is like opening a multicam clip in its own timeline. Glad my system is healthy. One tutorial, upon review, showed this behavior but did not explain it. I’ll review the other one today. Regardless, I did get it to work for the project I was working on and your explanation fills in a couple of major gaps. You need to double click in the browser or use the timeline history arrows because it’s really two different timelines. Got it. Thanks!

Follow up questions. If I had a multicam clip within a larger timeline (project) would double clicking it open up the angle editor with just that clip to fine tune it and then I could toggle back to the original project using the options you mention?

Also I assume that changes in the angle editor such as color correction would act as a parent and change the clip in the project’s timeline? If so does the reverse apply? If I color correct in the project’s timeline would those changes show in the angle editor? In other words, just like a compound clip.

If we used a camera that was synced using the internal mike but paused at some point while the others continued to record, would audio syncing automatically create a gap during the pause or does that section on need to be re-synced?

You are correct, but notice it says “major” updates. Are they going to program the App store to not allow free downloads for any educational license that has expired? The way the AELP worked in the past is that when other customers had to pay for an upgrade, we would get it for free unless the license had expired. Free updates were free regardless.

My point being that I suspect that Apple plans on charging for some future version of FCP X. At that point they need to rename it in some way. Because they do not allow software in the App store to charge for updates. FCP X 10.1 was a point grade and free but it was “major” but maybe not in terms of a license. Problem being FCP X is a brand just like OS X is a brand.

I already funded a second year on our license. I think it was a waste of money. When 10.1 came out there was a lot of expectation it would be a paid update. When Mavericks came out and that was free, Apple refunded the school district a pro rated amount because the yearly subscription for OS X plus Ilife licenses didn’t mean anything. But they did not refund for FCP X. I could be wrong but I really doubt they will not allow computers with serial numbers tied to a site license to not do a normal free update via the app store.

Yup. It’s in the timeline. I got it to work by collapsing it in the timeline by double clicking the project icon in the browser. If I double click it in the timeline to see all three clips then I can’t cut it in the viewer. Assuming nothing is wrong with my system, I’ll review the tutorials on multi cam and it will no doubt make more sense to me now that I got it to work. Though I don’t remember them mentioning that it must be collapsed to cut.

Do you know a way to collapse the clips in the timeline?

I used the same three clips to make a new multi cam clip.

The angles now show up in their name.

I can now switch between angles in viewer but not cut –

But it opens up other mp4s encoded in the same way. Unless the problem is the size of the mp4.

Lots of decent tutorials on FCP X color correction. It works pretty good after just a bit of learning.

My P2 cards need to be rewrapped as well. However you can still store the resulting re-wrap externally and decide if you need the original card clone as a back-up (which I think is a good idea). Your choice though.

Same result. QT player will open exported master file .mov but not the HandBreak .mp4. I tried again with no adjustments and the audio was actually as you said as was all the other settings. The only thing i ever did differently in Handbreak was adjusting the slider to read slow which I understand improves the quality. This time I skipped that and left everything alone. There must be something in the master that does not convert to mp4 correctly.

Been using this workflow for a while and never had this problem.

I’m going to try a different export out of FCP X 720p for apple devices.
