I have had FC crash on me when I think its trying to work with a corrupted file. Never seen this until Yosemite and FC 10.2. Debating if I should update the OS.

There was a file that when I tried to import it not only would FC crash but the Mac would shut down and reboot. I have had this behavior with a bunch of thunderbolt raids but in this case it was a particular file and all other libraries worked fine. And this was reproducible and consistent.

I have never heard of a bad file crashing a Mac before. An app yes. Not sure what to make of it.

Does your workflow create extra copies of all your media or do you then leave in place thus having the original card copies and the transcoded one left in place. And your reason for this? So that all media is in pro res format vs FC leaving some originals as is? Such as P2 clips?

I like the control I get in the video animation but (and I think you mentioned this above) I wish it got reflected in the timeline without opening the animation window. With effects it get integrated into the timeline thumbnails.

Seems like Apple is moving more and more of the features into the effects collection. Like color correction. It actually makes sense and gives you more control. Hopefully this animation window will become an effect and somehow seen in the timeline.

It’s harder to get started in this field … professionally. There is more competition and you need to offer something beyond what your clients can do for themselves or get someone to do for free.
But it’s easier to get started in this field because the information is available on the internet and the equipment is reasonably affordable (though that’s relative – I know many talented artists that can’t afford to set up shop).
But clients come around. For example, every company out there wants an on-line presence. They usually turn in-house to find someone to do it for free, save whatever that person can talk them into buying in terms of gear. More times than not this fails. It is still not easy to produce a really good multi-media presentation that delivers the message. Never mind one that not only delivers the message but does so with creativity and stands out from the crowd.

It’s also pretty hard to put together a team of people to shoot a movie without a budget. Free talent flakes.

But these are really exciting times. Distribution was always the ruling class’s ace in the hole.

You got talent … prove it.

Every writer in the era when every one knew the alphabet had to give away their ideas for free in order to get gigs down the road. This applies now for all artistic fields. That’s assuming Hollywood is your objective. But its wide open now and lots of ways to generate income in this field.

Yes, the SMART COLLECTIONS library one is created by default. For projects with a relatively small list of imports and media types, it’s very useful, saves a bit of end user organization while at the same time demonstrating the use of metadata sorting. And if you have your own way to organize its easy enough to delete.

Don’t think disk warrior can rewrite a directory it can’t see. If It won’t mount, it can’t help.

There are other recover programs that will grab whatever files it can.

Hard drives die and develop bad sectors.

Backing up is a must for any can’t afford to loose data.

Its the down side to all this advanced stuff we do.

Its not reliable.

Too many things you can’t do wout admin account password.
Try contacting Applecare. They should have a record based on serial number of Mac who owns it.

Have that ready before you call. It’s on the bottom of the foot stand. easier to read by taking a phone picture of it and then you can blow it up.

If they see it’s the company’s computer they can help you set up a new admin account.

and/or

Ask IT for admin account. If they don’t want to give you IT’s admin account ask them to set you up one so you can install apps and use system preferences and so forth. They let the last guy do it.

Also if the last guy was using his apps on his work computer then he owns them and they do not belong to company.
But you can install yours using your Apple ID.
