Is it possible it’s a wake from sleep issue? Check your settings in system preferences>energy savings. If it’s set to sleep in 15 min. and then is having trouble waking that would explain it. On the other hand, it might be a power supply or some component that when it heats up will power off. Check to see if all fans are working. The not completing boot up could be bad ram or a corrupt OS or a hardware issue.

Try booting from an external drive and see if problem is fixed.

Remove any 3rd party devices plugged into Pro and see if problem is fixed.

Remove extra ram chips and go back to original ram. See if problem is fixed.

Repair permissions. Repair disk. Reset p-ram.
See if problem is fixed.

Run hardware check app that came with Mac Pro.

Reinstall OS and see if problem is fixed.

If the project file is ‘locked’ that sounds like a permissions issue. First repair permissions using disk utility in utilities folder in applications folder.

Then right click on project file and choose Get Info. Click on lock icon in get info window. Type in admin password. Then allow your account to have permission to read and write.

If still no luck, then you might need to trash FCP preferences if they became corrupt.

However, it does not sound to me like you have FCP set up correctly. Your applications (including FCP) and project files should be on your system drive. Your media (render and capture) files should be on your media drive. You could keep your applications and project files on an external drive but not on the same drive as your media. The system drive should be backed up regularly. Your active media drive should be backed up as needed and wiped clean between project(s).

You need to be a lot more specific in your posts.

Unless you shoot under the same conditions over and over, you will not get the same results as having a lighting pro with a truck load of equipment and experience. However, one piece of gear that is a must, particularly without a pro on board, is a good broadcast monitor. That way, what you see is what you get. Add some scrims and flags to your kit. If you want the pros here to help, then show them an image from a shoot that is not up to par, explain the conditions, sources of light, etc, and I’m sure you’ll get some very good feedback. Taking all this stuff on a commercial flight might not be worth it. Under those circumstances, why not hire a local lighting pro? or rent the gear you need locally?

The Pro-light is a tungsten-halogen source, with a color
temperature in the 3000–3200°K range, depending on lamp
choice. To use Pro in locations where its output will mix with
daylight (5600–6500°K ), its color temperature can be converted
by attaching a Dichroic Filter accessory, or adding day blue
gels to the Pro & i gel-frame. Both will give more realistic daylight
white-balancing in video or film.

If some locations have sunlight in the mix you might want to add these accessories and put daylight bulbs in your kino.

right. good idea to run “Repair Disk Permissions” (of the Startup Disk)
before and after any major installation or whenever you experience weird behavior. of course cloning your system drive is also a good idea (before a major change). run repair before the backup.

It’s pricey but remember that it is recording directly into prores which means a much higher quality than HDV and ready to edit. It can be mounted under the cam. You can also use it to copy directly into its HD without a computer.

the cheapest way is to let FCP do it when you capture the footage into FCP.
