I’ve had what I think is similar issue where the multicam clips don’t remain visible/active in the viewer. This is solved in my case by clicking the original multicam clip in the browser. This is annoying cause I like to close the window of the browser and library to make for a bigger viewer window.

If it was optimized upon import and if it was not lost when the raid crashed you should be able to find the footage in the finder and actually play the QT files. If you can and FCP X is just not seeing the footage, then either use the relink feature in FC or simply reimport the files by navigating to where they are located after command I. It is always a good idea to make a copy of your card files and store them in a different location than your library just in case the library gets corrupted.

I think it would help Darren and Bill and others here if you took some screen shots of the current state within FC and another of your expanded file structure int the finder. Don;t change anything in the finder just take a screen shot to see what state its in.

command-shift 4 then lasso the image you want to capture.

then click the camera icon in the header of your post and follow the prompts to add the screen grab in your post.

you can crop out the unwanted green. you can load the original clip into its own timeline while still in the browser and color correct it – turning the green to whatever helps.. B and W might do the trick too. anything left green will get keyed. another possibility is to mask out the image and then shoot against a blue background and create a compound from the mask image and the new background then key using blue.

its funny I always wondered why they needed so many people to work on a film. but the more production you do the more you get it. ahh wardrobe department: prevents continuity problems and green fabric in a scene that will be green screened. etc. never mind the artistic side of using authentic costumes and or modern takes on them.

I don’t use adobe NLE but its likely that in that program you have to manually choose these settings liked you did in FCP legacy. Or at least that’s what I remember: choosing the codec and settings for that timeline.

FCP X by default likes to do things for you.

Mixed feelings about that.

So i should think of the FCP back up as a back up for a current project to go either back in time or recover from a corrupt library and xml to transfer or archive a completed FCP project. seems easy enough. I guess its worth testing the result of each project before assuming the archive is functional. And yes keep tabs on them as time goes by. These are in addition to exporting finished projects as master quick time files.

good points. what about the fcp x back-ups able to recreate a project using card copies. does that work?

For years, I’ve had intermittent crashes (destructive ones) with word and excel. If I frequently save it’s not a problem and OS X does auto recover some of it, though it looses the file name and it’s a pain. maybe the issue is with certain fonts. I don’t know. Until you said this Bill, I assumed it was an MS issue on a Mac rather than an OS system wide concern. It’s curious that frequent bugs go unaddressed in this age of IOS profits and frequent updates.

But text editing in FCP X is not the only time I’ve had FCPX crash only to have to reopen and pick up where I left off with nothing lost. Even the relaunch is fast. Which is not typical of most crashes. Another thing that happens is features in X get weirded out and that can often be addressed with a computer reboot. All minor annoyances though there is always that anxiety that things could be worse than they turn out to be.

Good question. If it just doesn’t work, you could create finder folders with the same names as the keywords and import them into final cut or import each keyword collection and add keywords after import of each. Will be dealing with this issue this summer a lot. In my case Aperture. What photo app are you using?

I have a bunch of aging 1st gen R4s. The sweet spot ($) now is 6TB drives and will be testing those shortly. Will post back results.
