I see used the same article you did when exporting projects from FCP 7 to compressor. However, I do it a little differently. I highlight the entire time line and then in sequence setting I choose apple pro res 422. I do this early on and edit in pro res. Then I export from there as a self contained QT file. Follow the steps in compressor.
Then I use this for DVD SP:

You might be doing all this. Sometimes DVDs are duds and don’t play well on other players. Make sure you are using high quality blanks. I have no idea why anyone would want to play an HD project in SD. DVDs also load slower during a showing so I don’t get it.

If this fails you might want to take your project and burn the DVD on a different computer.

If you burn it to DVD you will be loosing a lot of quality. DVD is standard def. Why not bring it to viewing in digital form? A computer can be interfaced with a projector as easily as a dvd player. Just export as a self-contained QT. If you really want to burn a SD dvd I can provide you with links on how to do that.

A SSD system drive will speed things up but you pay more for capacity.
The mac mini is over due for an update if you can wait. There is no 2012 mac mini. 2011 was latest.

The macbook pros were just released and you could take it to class with you. Then when apple gets its act together some time in 2013 you could look at the “new pro.” (or most likely sooner the new imac or new mac mini).

Sounds good, but my IPhone is encased in an Otterbox Defender, which did protect it the four times it went crashing to the ground. Each time it dropped, ironically, was when the belt clip that came with the defender got accidentally engaged in the open position and popped off my belt. What is the open position for? Why it allows the belt clip to double as a kickstand. Actually, the last time it fell, something did break. The part that holds the kickstand (belt clip) in the open position broke off. Since then, it has not fallen. It works much better now as a belt clip though is still way to bulky – held out a good ½ inch from my belt. Have to admit; when someone slides a butt naked iphone out her front or rear jean pocket, I get product envy. I realize it’s the same model I have, but I still want one of those.

I see two problems here:
landscape only?
so upright that it might be a problem with touch control.

The cover doubling as a keyboard would be great
IF the actual typing experience has a good tactile feel.

On the other hand, I would love it if Apple added mini-kickstands to each backside edge of the macbooks:
better typing angle,
better touch pad angle,
better heat dissipation.

Would not mind one for the IPhone though it would make the back cover less than lick my smooth seamless perfection.

duh. Thought help was the manual and wondered why it was so thin. Will do both. Pretty obvious really, just feeling like everything is so different.

Either way if there are no other distractions — meaning, rushing from a full day of work to take a four hour session is a bit hard.

On the other hand, the human mind needs time to digest and practice before its ready for the next chapter of any course of learning. Pro schools charge a lot for these learn it all in two or three days courses. After x amount of instruction, they become very expensive demonstrations with little retention.
They work for some; not for most.

PS: not saying demos aren’t interesting or helpful, just they are better delivered on-demand.

I figured it must be a system vs FCP X thing owning the rights to a keyboard shortcut. But I was worried given the other funky behavior that maybe I or my system had fouled things up somehow. Surprised given Apple’s make it simple for them mantra. You’d think when FCP X is the active app that it would override shortcuts used in other programs or at least it would stay clear of sharing system wide shortcuts.

Hopefully there is a way to to do just that–have FCP X take control of keyboard shortcuts when it is active? I need to set up about 30 student computers and don’t want students messing with system preferences and the like.

As for HELP being less than helpful — I see its limitations but I just want a quick way to be reminded of how to perform basic operations. I also have the certification book in PDF form but find its so married to its use of sample footage that I can’t always find a quick reminder of a basic operation.
