Seems like a graphic card or graphic card driver issue to me but I’m guessing. Any problems with your monitor playing videos on-line? Is your hard drive full? Reinstall QT maybe? Is there program that can play without distortion?

sure enough the encryption was creating the long copy time. I created a 10 gig sparse image and copied a 4 gig clip into it. Less than 1 min. I created a sparse image of the same size that was encrypted and the estimate is 35 min. Almost a 40/1 ratio.

Now I have to look into permissions as a possible way for students to not have access to each other’s work and files. Bummer.

Sorry for the newbie stuff guys but I’m determined to make the switch and this is my first attempt at a real project not just practice and dabbling. I have to admit I went through the same learning curve with FCP 3 I think it was.

For what it’s worth, I accidentally collapsed it back when I added some key frames. I appreciate your patience with the newbie question. Now that I know the feature exists it will be easy to do a search for how to use and it.

I too followed this thread since I need both X and 7. Early on, I went the partition route and have stayed there even though this has been revised. One advantage remains: if a system gets corrupted, you can start from scratch on one partition without having to go through the dance with all. Plus you can do things like run disk warrior from one partition to trouble shoot another.

I know i can save the the color grade as a preset to apply to other clips. How do i choose a 5 sec selection of a clip and correct only that section? I thought it was one clip at a time. I could blade it but prefer not to.

Right. That’s what i see too. Considering the current MacPro models are getting long in the tooth and that BM considers this card “legacy” I think this might remain as is. Strange considering in the other editing programs you can choose what format to output and FCP X looks like it offers this feature but does not. However i’m glad i got it working and the images look great on the Flanders’ monitor. I will also add that the images look better on the FCP X viewer than they did on FCP 7 viewer. It is a lot closer to the broadcast monitor. It’s brighter and the colors are slightly different but fairly close.

When u say to to normal, can you pull down choice of codec in Fcp on the fly or do you need to set the codec in Mac BMW system preferences.

Thanks Andy. I’ll try it. Since so much of X is done in the event window before adding to project and since people do have different sources of video to work with, it would seem this is a needed update. However who knows what the new mac pro will be and I fear – or not – my pci cards will become obsolete.

Thank you. Works like a browser – nothing new to motor memorize. Easier than clicking and unclicking the film canister and the other projects to go back and forth between 2 or more related projects.
