Nope. it adds it to the original media folder in the library and the new folder of my choosing. I guess it would save a step of creating a backup of rewrapped media. But the common recommendation is to back up the entire card as is.

Andreas just said FC will put it in the original media folder no matter what.

I didn’t notice the choose a folder to import (rewrap to) because I thought my choice was ‘leave in place’ or import into ‘the event’. But yes … not hidden. Since I do exactly that to have FC create the event and library on my media drive rather than the movie folder on the system drive, I think I tried that already. I’ll try again.

Just to be crystal: if media was in folders x, y, z on drives 1, 2, 3, you could ‘consolidate’ and end up with all media on x1 and no where else?

I deleted my post after reading Andreas’. But ‘leave in place’ is selectable on my home set up and on 6 stations at school. But it doesn’t work. And apparently neither does selecting a different location.

Bill, when I make a copy of the cards, I simply drag the ‘CONTENTS’ folder and “LASTCLIP.txt” file into a folder. I assume this is a clone. Or do I need to use an app like CCC?

Never had trouble doing it this way.

If I create a folder to consolidate the event into, will FC then move (not copy) the files into this folder and reference them? How would I keep this updated when I am ready to add another reel? Just consolidate again?

Thanks that’s what I had in mind. I thought we were talking 60-$70 bucks. We have a shoot coming up where the talent is in a fixed positions but the shot will be continuous for close to an hour.

the FCC is currently considering auctioning off the 600MHz – 700MHz range which could happen as early as 2015.

470 – 600 MHz should, for now, be future proof.

any time you use a cordless kit you need to do a sound check to make sure something in the air is not causing problems. The unit has a built in scan function to help you find a free channel. Some times nothing works and you need xlr backups.

is all edits of the session before the crash lost? wondering when auto-save actually takes place. also wonder whether a safe boot and repair permissions would do the same fix. worked for me after getting an empty library panic – my panic not OS X.

Ok I’m getting it now. I can even do a filter search (which could be a paste of the folder name), click the mag glass next to the filter line, the filter term is added in the FILTER HUD, click the smart collection button in the HUD, then paste the folder name to name the smart collection. You’d think the new smart collection when created this way would already be named by the filter search term as a default but it remains unnamed.

Still not sure why if I selected import as a keyword collection this isn’t done automatically. The keyword is attached to each clip so it’s easy to filter by the keyword and then create a key/smart collection after importing. Once you establish an organization strategy, you start repeating steps over and over and it does get tedious.
