YouTube is just going to compress your video again; I think their max is 100mb, right? I would try to get as close to that ceiling as you can. Your first obvious cut should be the frame size, since people are going to be watching your video at half size, at best. Once you’ve cut that down, try for the highest data rate you can and still come in under 100mb.

Hopefully you have Autosave enabled? I’ve had this happen in the past once or twice; opening your most recently Autosaved project file should work fine.

The only other thing I can suggest is to copy the project to a different drive; I’ve had this work sometimes.

    Thanks for the post!

I agree that we need to get the audio right for this thing. Our hope is that if we can put together an episode or two to show to potential investors/funders, then we can get the money to do the whole thing right! We already have some interested parties. Our CEO is already wary of this project because it’s put us in the whole, and naturally I can’t convince anyone that we should spend money on the audio. Instead, money (that we don’t have) went towards hiring the talent, wardrobe, props, etc.

But your suggestions are good and I’ll see what I can do. Thank you!

  • There must be a good way to accomplish this without duplicating the media on both systems; I work right next to my partner and we’re trying to come up with some solution to this problem — easy access to the media for both of us. We’re networked to each other, but this can be limiting at times as well.

I was in the same position 3 years ago, and still searching for the best way to get into “other” types of video work. But weddings have been fun, and the contacts you make there can lead to other types of work.

I would just use the resources you have and get some experience; I video taped a sales conference for an old company I used to work for, I did a commercial for pretty cheap for my sister’s company, I did a training video for a school I was working at….all of these opportunities gave me a chance to build my reel and go out there better prepared to get the bigger jobs.

    Best of luck.
