Wait, are you saying that if I grade at 4K ProRes 4444, but end up bouncing it back to Final Cut for a 2K output I will be losing my latitude in my prior color correction?

Is the only way to take advantage of the extra latitude (and keep it) is by outputting directly from Color?

haha. Yes, I suppose you are right about that.

Are you saying then that the only real circumstance to deliver a 4K image is with a film out? It seems strange to me that, for archival reasons, one couldn’t have a full 4K movie file with contained audio.

I’m thinking we will be putting it onto HDCAM, a full res Quicktime movie, and on a Blu-Ray (as a movie).

Okay, but that leaves me with separate video and audio. How can I bring them together?

Okay, sounds like I could perhaps splice back in FX shots, but having audio tracks with the video is still impossible.

In the past I was just rendering in Final Cut Pro and working through it. But I have always wanted to figure out a way for Final Cut Pro to playback without rendering.

The Motion idea is interesting and worth checking out. Thanks for the tip. However, at my computer at work I currently don’t have Motion 🙁 Also, I sometimes have multiple tracks of audio (dialog), something which Motion cannot handle, correct?

Considering which still format Final Cut Pro prefers, what is superior to JPEGS?

And Compressor CAN import JPEGS, I just can’t figure out a way to set their duration.

    Thanks all!

Okay, so let me get this right…

In Log and Transfer I have to mount every card I have used. Then click out of the window, back to the Browser in Final Cut, right-click on my sequence and Batch Capture.

After this Log and Transfer will come back to front and begin transcoding?

    Shane,

Okay, I’ll try your method. Just one question, what do you mean by ‘point FCP to the first file.’ Could you talk more about that?

    Thanks
