Problem Re-transcoding Off-Line Project
So, I have a project I have been editing with ‘re-compressed’ (using Media Manager), low-res footage.
Now it is time to up-rez the project back up to full resolution (ProRes transcodes from AVCHD files). I followed the appropriate steps of making an off-line project with Media Manager. When I then go to ‘capture’ or ‘batch capture’ the clips or sequence, FCP brings up the ‘log and capture’ window instead of the ‘log and transfer’ window.
This action obviously doesn’t work, since I’m not using a tape based medium…I cannot find a way to bring up the ‘log and transfer’ window. I know the window comes up when I ‘batch capture’ a sample ProRes transcode, but somehow after I re-compress it to a low res work file it will no longer bring up the window?
Thoughts?

Yes…this is normal. It seems odd, but that is what is supposed to happen.
What you first need to do, is open Log and Transfer, point FCP to the first file, so that FCP knows where to look for the footage, then use BATCH CAPTURE to reimport that footage. I have done this a couple times now. But not with AVCHD footage. There might be issues with that in that the names on the cards are CLIP #1, CLIP #2, and that naming convention starts over on each card.

Okay, I’ll try your method. Just one question, what do you mean by ‘point FCP to the first file.’ Could you talk more about that?

Point it to a folder that contains your original camera offloads. The backup folder where they all are. Once FCP knows where one is, it will look for the rest there.

Okay, so let me get this right…
In Log and Transfer I have to mount every card I have used. Then click out of the window, back to the Browser in Final Cut, right-click on my sequence and Batch Capture.
After this Log and Transfer will come back to front and begin transcoding?

No. Just one. To point FCP to the path to this and the other cards. No need for all, just one.

Yes. You will first see the couple of windows you see with Batch Capture, then the L&T interface will appear.
