Here is the response I got from Sony. They have a memory card recovery tool.

I understand that you want to recover the videos you deleted on the memory card.
If you are using a Sony memory card, then it may be possible to recover deleted pictures and videos from your SD card. Sony has a software called Memory Card File Rescue which can be used to recover files that have been deleted from Sony memory card. However, if you are using a third party memory card, you may call the manufacturer to check if they have an available recovery software that will allow you to retrieve the videos.

Sorry for the delay A (away for Easter),
My friend had the software on his old computer and it is gone.
I like the idea of cloning the SD card (after locking it)
You can also try Sony tech support. They are usually quite helpful with the higher end camcorders.
They might even have a software tool you can use.

Hi Antonio,
I have a VG10. We used a similar recovery tool a few years ago. It worked better with the card still in the camera, and the camera connected via usb. It was on a friends computer. Will ask him and post if you still need it.Colin Mendez Morris

Hi Matthew,
The screen resolution has nothing to do with Vegas-it is set within Windows.
If you have a Windows 7 machine you control the screen resolution by going to:

When I waited for the discount, I have usually paid $120-$140 for upgrading up to two versions (i.e. SVP 8-10 , or 10-12) The regular upgrade price has been $200 for a while, and they usually offer a 30-40% discount.

Hi Angelo- I mean your fashion stuff looks excellent and you may want to market yourself that way. Fashion designers are very image and photo aware because that really sells their product and they are willing to pay for excellent work. The guys around my area who do it well get good budgets, and work consistently with the same agencies and designers over and over. They do shoot other projects but they do quite well just shooting fashion.

Thanks for the link Ralph! Interesting bit about the Vegas Connect iPad app. Last night they were talking about free 5 Gigs of cloud storage and a whole new Sony cloud product. Should be interesting.

Hi Angelo,
The job fair would probably be interesting-but if you already have great material that covers a genre (like fashion) maybe it’s not the ideal fit for your skills and connections. I think the fashion angle may be good for you because they are very photo aware and usually have some kind of budget. I cut my teeth on shooting mainly jazz and classical musicians live. Many musicians still think that their spouse/aunt/uncle with a consumer cam can shoot a pro live music video. Gradually, I got in contact with more clients who had a better understanding of the process, and who valued their image. I now try to balance between the bigger budgets and the more artistic/experimental stuff. Here is a link to an interview with George Bellias. He puts into words some of the stuff he has done as a 1 man editor for some big rock clients. NB-If he used SVP he could do his audio and video on the same platform!

Hi Angelo,
I saw some of your fashion stuff and it was really quite good. As previously mentioned-the demo reel and personal contacts are the key. I think a few different demo reels would really work for you (i.e. a fashion reel, music video reel etc) With a strong reel you can develop more relationships with agencies and clients in a specific industry. If you become known as a ‘go to’, boutique, production company for fashion I don’t think they will really care about what platform you edit with. I would also line up a few other people (camera,lighting, sound, editing) who are on the same workflow so you can share bigger jobs and tighter deadlines. I do this a lot with live music and it has worked pretty well so far.Colin Mendez Morris

I’m with Norman on WMV. What you may find with the GH4 is that you may not need to go to an intermediate codec because the quality is so high.
Here is the link to some GH4 footage. You can just drop it on the timeline in SVP 12.
Regarding the GH4 specs- 1 reviewer confirms getting 4:2:2 4K via HDMI. Here is a quote from Panasonic on the No Film School site: “It is confirmed that while the GH4 will only give you 8-bit 4:2:0 in 4K and 1080p to the SD cards, it will give 10-bit 4:2:2 4K and 10-bit 4:2:2 1080p from the HDMI port on the camera. There aren’t any 4K HDMI external recorders just yet…”
