Sony hasn’t announced this yet and probably won’t until the 17th but you can look at their current upgrade prices to get an idea. Usually there is an additional discount for the first 30 – 60 days for early adopters. That’s the best time to buy. In other words, don’t upgrade the first day. Wait until Sony sends you an email with your upgrade offer. In the past, it has been better than the web price. Of course, you need to be on the mailing list to get the offer.
Every year these is someone who buys it the first day, then gets the email the next day, then posts about how to contact Sony to get the cheaper price… don’t be that guy! 😉

April 13, 2014 at 6:06 pmEdit: Nevermind, I was remembering the price of Vegas 12.
I still use Vegas 11 and never got 12. Will I have to get 12 to then get the upgrade discount, or can I go straight from 11 to 13?

April 13, 2014 at 6:52 pmWhen I waited for the discount, I have usually paid $120-$140 for upgrading up to two versions (i.e. SVP 8-10 , or 10-12) The regular upgrade price has been $200 for a while, and they usually offer a 30-40% discount.
Hopefully this will be similar….Colin Mendez Morris

April 14, 2014 at 10:46 amThe current upgrade price for just Vegas Pro 12.0 is $159.96. I assume Vegas Pro 13.0 will be less initially but anything can happen.

April 19, 2014 at 12:31 amI never get the upgrade emails. I always have to chase Sony.
Which V13 product is equivalent to the SVP 9 pro product that was originally released? I purchased product assistant and sound forge pro through upgrade specials running at the time, and it sounds like the top tier ‘pro’ product I originally started with is no longer the case. Sounds like if I want to obtain the top tier, I have to upgrade to the pro suite. I am not sure that this forced upgrade tactic is kosher on Sony’s part.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

I don’t remember if Vegas Pro 9.0 came with DVD Architect but Vegas Pro Edit is just the editor and Vegas Pro is the editor plus DVD Architect and some 3rd part plug-ins.

You would only upgrade to the suite if there were 3rd part products in the suite that you wanted. Vegas Pro is the same in all three offerings. It sounds like you have everything except HitFilm so unless you want HitFilm there is no need to upgrade to the suite.

April 22, 2014 at 3:27 amI don’t understand Sony’s approach to including a competitor, Hitfilm, in their suite. Hitfilm itself also offers editing. Sony has always been very strange with always using external plugins and programs to Vegas. ie. ProTitler, Cinescore, and now Hitfilm. Can’t they integrate this stuff into the Vegas app, so you don’t always have to launch and switch between apps? Can’t Sony develop their own compositor instead of including third party like Hitfilm?
