For your use I myself would go along exactly the same route, you will have an awesome system at far less cost than buying from an edit PC specialist.

We are so lucky with the PC kit today, when I started NLE my frst PC was 100MHz and 32Mb RAM (no these are not typo figures you read them correctly)

May I suggest that you fit the boot disc in a trayless caddy and fit a second caddy in the system, also buy 2 identical boot drives. Once all the software is loaded clone the boot onto the second then you will always have backup that can get you up and editing again in a couple of minutes rather than hours of restoring from an image.

    Good luck

I have been building PC’s for myself and friends to use as edit stations for over 15 years.

I usually ask them a series of questions about what they actually want to use it for (Premiere, AE, p/shop, animation etc, also source footage: – AVCHD, DSLR vid, P2, SD etc) and taylor a solution to fulfill their needs.

For P5.5 your system will blow it out of the water but at a cost.

If you can expand upon the source material you want to use now and in the future we can advise better.
