If you strike out, I have a breakout from a failed card that may work for you here in the states. I know it was a PCI-X card, not sure which one but I think it is one in the same.

I am using BNC cables as all of my equipment has “standard” TC ins/outs I generate time of day time code on the Edirol and the cameras’ file structure is the date and time, making organization a cinch. I am going to back Gary on this and say you need to get a clockit or some other TC generator and jam sync everything. All I can tell you, is that everything works, and I have been doing it that way for years.

Any guess if there might be a new page on the GUI to pull files via network Jeremy or do you think the computer will see the Ki-Pro as a drive just as with working with the module? I am wondering as I work in a strictly PC world and have to figure out if I’ll need another copy of MacDrive.

I’m using the R4-Pro to feed the Ki-Pro, Cameras, and TC display with no issues. Just make sure you use the right type of DA.

  • Tell me about your workflow. What program are you using to generate the Keys, what switcher are you using? I am using a Panasonic switcher and the process to create a key/fill assignment is quite extensive.

  • Did you ever figure this out? I am getting ready to do the same thing?

Marc, I have the Ki Pro in my Fly pack wired in a SDI “loop” as well and I agree that seeing a picture from the Ki Pro as a confidence feed is certainly a necessity. On the other hand, I have worked with several educational institutions using Ki Pro’s and they have all asked the same question about breaking the loop during recording as it seems to confuse the student directors. This particular instance, the monitor is fed from the component out, and the switcher input comes from the SDI.

I was just requesting that AJA add a “disable (x) output during recording” menu in the next firmware update, so that I would be able to go in, keep the component active at all times, and disable the SDI output during recording so that there is no chance of feedback.

To me this also goes back to the days of classic tape VTR’s, where you wouldn’t see a picture coming from the VTR unless you were in fact recording. I don’t know about you but that has saved my butt a couple of times when I missed hitting the “play” and “record” buttons simultaneously.

No you got it right Jeremy, the deck is recording program out, but it also acts as a playback deck on the same switcher. In a normal studio environment it’s not an issue, but as I mentioned, this is a high school studio, so I’m just trying to make things as simple as possible, and seeing the same source on two inputs can be confusing for a student.

To AJA support, in most applications where I use and have seen others using a Ki Pro in a fly pack/studio situation it is set up in an “E to E state” causing a potential loop. You may want to consider adding a “disable (x) output during recording” in the next firmware update? Just a thought.

I’ve been quite impressed with Compix. I think they are working on releasing something like this. Let me know what you decide as I’m looking for the same thing.

The PowerTap is quite useful depending on your needs. I use it to power my Ultralight 2, and to charge my Firestore. You can also get adapters to power most wireless receivers as well.
