I think one time we calculated the delay at around half of what you are experiencing. I would double check that you don’t accidentally have some extra effects activated. Other than that, try the different outputs, or maybe get in touch with Panny service and see if they have any ideas?

[Bob Peterson] “I am curious how you plan to build a dual boot system to run FCP. The last I heard, Apple won’t sell you their OS, or allow you to use it on anything except a machine that Apple makes. Am I missing something?”

I didn’t know it was possible either until recently Bob. I can’t tell you how to do it, but Google can. This isn’t some hacker thing, and it seemed surprisingly stable. I actually first saw this in practice on several machines at a network affiliate in a major market. They cut with FCP on the Mac drive, then would reboot in Windows to work with the Adobe Suite.

Al, I just replied to a message posted by Joel about the “end of days” for Sony Vegas. I cited your issue as a perfect example of what has been wrong with Sony Vegas for the past couple of years.

Your situation is the 21st. century version of the days of 1950’s black and white television where a guy had to grab his T.V. antenna with one hand, wrap his other hand in tin foil, point it due West, and stand on one foot so he could watch the ballgame.

Many of us have been dealing with these bugs for two and three years since version 9.0 64-bit, you and many others are experiencing the exact same issues. I have submitted literally thousands of crash reports, about a dozen a day and the bugs have gotten worse in some cases with version 10 and all of the new updates. I have literally had an open case about the crashing with Sony since 2008 that they continue to close then I resubmit. Every time they tell me to clean my registry and have a nice day.

I really think that we all need to pick a day and simultaneously ask Sony for a refund for version 9 and 10 unless they are going to address and fix these issues once and for all.

Joel, if you haven’t already, please read the thread from a couple of days ago “Painful day with multicamera” Whenever I talk about Sony Vegas at this point, I feel like Dr. Bruce trying to keep myself from turning green and flipping cars over. People like Al and I have been having more issues than we can count, been dealing with the same “reproducible” bugs over and over again, and have gotten zero response from Sony for the past couple of years besides “Clean out your registry”

If you go over to the AJA Ki Pro forum for instance, AJA support answers just about EVERY ISSUE that anyone has with their products within hours if not minutes. Dozens of people have been reporting the exact same errors, and we all have to quote Al “The system of mine is immensely stable” top of the line systems with ZERO issues outside of Vegas.

My personal issues started getting out of hand when I built a 64 bit system and purchased version 9. I have post-it notes with things I CANNOT DO with Vegas, and my workarounds using Premiere and other third party software to do the dirty work for Vegas just so that I can cut a quick multicamera video. I purchased version 10 A, B, C, and now D all have the exact same bugs… SOME OF THE BUGS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE IMHO!

Here’s my plan Joel if you are interested. I purchased a Quadro card for the Adobe Suite, and plan on building a dual boot rig so I can run both FCP X. Between the two I can totally eliminate Vegas from my workflow. Will I miss it? Sure! I miss what Vegas USED TO do well, I will miss what it is SUPPOSED to be able to do.

Will I miss submitting LITERALLY DOZENS of crash reports on a daily basis? HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every day with the “New and improved” Sony Vegas is a painful day. Here are some of my work a rounds Al.

I have to use Premiere and other Adobe suite products to convert files until Vegas is happy. I take other files to a friend with a MAC and FCP to convert files until Vegas is happy. I use third party conversion software to convert files to make Vegas happy.

Then and only then if all is right with the world I can import all of the files and try to edit with multicam.

Another workaround is to use a shuttle pro…How does that help you might ask? I programmed the shuttle pro for editing/camera switching so that I can leave the mouse arrow over the save icon…

AL… I LITERALLY SAVE AFTER EVERY SWITCH SO AVOID LOSING MY WORK….

I have redubbed Vegas “Sony Click Crash” you click/it crashes.

But you know the worst part AL… You and are imagine these problems, did you know that? No one in the Sony Vegas world acknowledges these problems exist! Everyone you speak to about this problem will blame your motherboard, the hard drive, you anti-virus software, the type of shoes you wear while editing…

BUT NO! THIS ISN’T VEGAS’ FAULT AL, IT’S ALL OUR FAULT!!!!

That’s why you will get no where posting your problems about click crash here or on any other Vegas forum.

Couple of suggestions, they’re not going to be cheap though. You are going to probably need to look at a video server type solution. I’m thinking you might be able to use 360 Systems or Buf Tech System. The 360 systems are low profile rack mountable broadcast servers, and the Buf Tech (Buf Tek) systems are used mainly for sports replays. I spoke to both at NAB and really like their products.

You’ll have to answer some more questions before anyone will be able to give you a solid answer.

What type of switcher is it? Off the top of my head, if you are using a switcher (say a GVG 100) that has cards for each input/output, it’s possible the program output cars is bad.

Have you tried sending bars from the switcher or a test generator? This could help determine if it’s the cameras or the switcher?

Does it need genlock? Your cameras may need to go through a frame sync or may need genlock in order to work properly if your switcher doesn’t have built-in sync for the inputs.

I do remember using a Canopus or similar device and seeing red lines before. I’m not sure what the issue ended up being.
