what i did was simply raise the natural input black,hue/sat and lumin protect. no roto, no masks. If you want more control, you’ll need them.

“Can someone make a recommendation how to make good and reasonably fast framerate conversions without having to spend hours during the setup process?”

I humbly recommend you try an instant hardware solution such as teranex by blackmagic design

try natural, sharpness -2, contrast -2

  • everything’s 99% there. If you added faster cuts and more camera angles, it’d be 100%. I mean like, hollywood level. I’m not kidding.

  • um.. no ones talked about polarized lenses… You’re gonna need those if you want to see the inside of the molten bulb core and not just blinding light in the camera.

  • actually, what you’ll need to decide is:

    1. do you want 18 fps with frame blending with pixel motion to give a smooth 18fps.

    2. 18fps as an undercrank where the motion is a little faster than normal, like in some b/w film by timestretching the comp to 24fps to speed it up.

    3. 18 fps(-as is-) is pretty choppy for stop motion, heck! even 24fps is brutal if you don’t have giant armatures and perfect motion.

You may definitely want to do some tests before deciding on your final post production and not screw yourself out of 10,000 frames of work.

    this also might help

if you add an adjustment layer – mode color
    add effect median around 5
it will blur the chroma and not the luma. might help the compression. also, make sure you don’t use any 8 bit effects, little yellow triangles will disable 32bpc processing.

  • are you using any 8 bit effects and is the interpretation interlaced upper/lower field or separate non or preserve best edges. Is color management set to a low gamut? try simple importing and exporting an unchanged image and roundtrip it. Work out from there.

i would simply import a rendered low chroma output back in(make sure it’s a 4:0:0 or 4:2:0 but at highest quality.)

and then use denoise or neatvideo to fix the final product. It’s alot easier than guessing what’s going to work before you render, believe me, because the last thing you want to do is compromise your vision by removing effects.

AE usually dithers 32bpc to 8bit but it is notorious for not supporting chroma downsampling. It’s been 20 years, come on, adobe!
