We shot a (real) short film with the Panasonic GH3. Here is the result :)
For the last 6 weeks I have been working on this short film and now it is finished. We shot the film over 2.5 days. The camera used is the GH3.
Of course I would like to get feedback and hear what you think of it, but it might also be interesting for you guys to see what this camera is capable of in a production.
Logline:
‘After the alcoholic Simon survives a dangerous car accident, it is finally time to change his life.’
The language spoken is Dutch, but since there are only like 5 words in the whole film, it should be no problem to understand what’s going onI will answer any questions you might have regarding the production, workflow or post production. And of course all other comments are very welcome.

As an owner of a GH3 myself, I really enjoyed seeing what this camera can do in a narrative situation. No fancy tricks, just solid, technically pleasing film. Exposure seems very good, especially in the kitchen scene where he’s drinking whiskey. Liked the slomo in the car as he’s falling asleep. I use the 40% frame rate quite a bit when shooting birds. Close-ups of his beard as he shaved were startlingly clear. Which lenses are you using?

I am also a GH3 owner and your short narrative piece was very well done. Exposures looked great. I have owned many cameras over the years, both expensive broadcast cameras/camcorders and DSLR types, and the GH3 has given me the best image with the best latitude. Keep up the good work.

Nice work, not sure the camera really “made” the film.
It’s craft after all, begins with script, pure and simple.
Other than that pedestrian comment, yes the glass and shot choice, construct, do advance the case for the GH series as an inexpensive and professional grade tool, equal to or (arguably) better than the other HD enabled DSLRs.

Nice story line, soundtrack, shots, good work!
I would like to ask which codec and NLE you used? I am new to GH3 and looking at different work flows.

Hi Frank, thanks for your comments.
The codec in camera was the .mov 50 mbps codec which was just imported and edited ‘natively’ in Premiere CS6. Exported as a h264 mp4 with a bitrate of about 9000 to keep the file size just under 500mb to be able to upload to vimeo.
