  • if it was stationary objects or even slight camera movement, it would be hard but not impossible, but…

i don’t think a temporal filter or timeremap/difference matte will work because there’s actors in the scene and they will move about and each frame will be completely different than the previous frame. (i.e. its impossible to create a clean matte)

I just don’t think this is savable. at, least quality-wise.

saying all that, here comes the partial solution:
    solution 1:

your only hope is a motion tracked mask of the actual bars moving around, then they themselves can be deflickered or color corrected back into the scene with nice opacity and feathers.

    solution 2:

solution 1 has failed and you are out of options. precomp your video, timewarp 50% the precomp, then timestretch the same amount. The video will have the same duration but it will create intermediate frames essentially slowing down the moving boxes to such a crawl, that they become unnoticable.

if you have 15 frames you wouldn’t mind uploading, I’d be more than happy to take a stab at it.

  • actually, there are a few more things. the nice 4:4:4 output dithered from After effects that makes all the 16bpc effects back into a 8 bit render, not so fast!

Guess what, if you use any 8bit effects in the 16bpc comp, it will break the dithering quality. and to make matters worse, if you upload to another site that requires recompression, your 4:4:4 will turn into 4:2:0. You won’t even know your video blew up till after you uploaded it!

you can first find out by test rendering out to a h.264 in adobe media encoder. that will show the chroma subsampling and 8 bit dithering.

    if some shows up try:

    1. fast blur/reduce saturation with broadcast colors effect as matte to master AE comp or rendered h.264 footage, then upload
    2. render out both a 16bpc 4:4:4 and the highest quality possible h.264 and import, set as difference matte. use that as an alpha matte to blur/reduce sat.
    3. try my AE project. you can test it out with test precomp working in 8bpc. it will only blur the quantization errors for 8 bit effects and low chroma quality 4:2:0.

also, you can disable the shadow/highlight effect and the Midtones Brightness expression and the template will just work on the white balance.

if you enable the text layer and scroll Gamma Clamp at gamma*10 so that the text box reads 25, it will
fix timelapse and old movie’s flicker and white balance for large ammounts of footage. just replace video with yours.

this might work. it will replace large instances of files with others.

color correct them to background, try color correction curves.

lightwrap color changes around edges, blur inner edges for light scattering, slowly fade edges transparently for lightwrap.

keylight can’t do any of those things because it sucks. that’s why its free. you can buy primatte keyer or ultimatte or something else usefull. google expensive keyers.

you also have the option of using your existing keys and merge them into my ae project which has those features setup from procedural mattes.

  • hey, thanks for the vid. you inspired me to make an after effects procedural keyer. It has the same edge detail as keylight plus more refining tools. i made it open source so that you can port it into plugins.

you’d just have to play with the settings.

try turning off the matte chokers in mask precomp,
    rgb pro tolerance 0
    hue protect whites tolerance 0

    in final blur comp,
in final blur mask layer before channel blur, add a level-individual controls effect set as alpha input white 2.0. that will clamp on the branches

doing all this definately removes branches problem but you might have to garbage matte buildings more if they have white windows. that’s what matte chokers are for. So its a trade off. Speed for accuracy.

    Happy Tweaking:)

just right click replace sky.png with sky video. and you might need to resize the comps and sub layers to your video size.

here’s another way how to do it and it also shows tracking techniques.
