  • I agree with not compressed. Since they are being captured for the first time, you don’t need to worry about generational loss or lossless compression. The best codecs to capture with are Wavelet based motion-Jpeg etc., NOT I repeat NOT macroblock codecs like h.264!!! You will get nasty artifacts!

  • playback is bilinear, paused is lanzcoz in software mode.

    did you render interlaced?

    Some things to try:

    2. if the cgi is already interlaced, you can deinterlace it before AE rendering, then use Revision’s Re-interlacer to create motion estimated fields for progressive viewing so it won’t flicker. Import back into AE for composite.
    3. use Revision deflicker
    4. keyframe effect- fast blur so far away so it get less blurry the closer it moves toward camera. a fake depth of field
    5. some parts of it actually move like moire.

mask out the bad part, mediun effect for chroma blur, shutter blur the strobing, vibrance the lost color

    1. Set Mercury playback engine to software in Project Settings
    2. are you using any luts? both speedgrade and premiere needs to have them in their respective lut folders
    3. import sequence into another sequence
    4. did any adobe or gfx drivers change?
    5. interpret matte straight alpha?
    6. go to – wrench-turn off transparency grid? composite video?

my best advice is ask the festival what they want. they are usually very specific about the entries and won’t accept a wrong format.

that being said, the pc equivalent is DnxHD. The upside is, if you render it with AE’s Rec. 709 LUT utility profile converter , it will look perfect in youtube.

long story short, cc simple wire removal does the trick, but if you want more refinement, i find that two of them in a cross shape
isolates the blurred pixels more accurately.

here’s a template example of what I mean. ae 6

Since a lot of people have been having problems with smooth playback,
here’s my total “make everything playback smoother” solutions chart.

    1. you can try rolling back to an earlier video driver

“old drivers from 2014 work better (performance-wise) than the current ones”
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/8447565#8447565

    2. add premiere in NVidia Control Panel as an application for discrete gpu
    3. deleting all preferences/clean media cache files/also in Roaming folder
    4. Make Sure The Composite Preview During Trim is Turned Off and also make sure your Reference Monitor is Also Closed it Will Help Solve the Choppy Playback
    5. Set Preferences : > Audio hardware > Default Input: to None
    6. install latest updates for Adobe and your gfx card or roll back driver if using older gfx card
    7. is your gfx card supported for cuda? By default, CUDA needs at least 768M video RAM
    go to:file-project settings-video renderer-is it greyed out?
    8. download a monitoring program that tells you what is maxed out, your disk cache speed, cpu, gpu, RAM, etc. That should narrow down the problem.
    9. “Why am I getting yellow and red lines running through my footage on pause?”
render the timeline (press the Enter key on your keyboard) so that yellow lines along the top of the timeline turn green
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1979303
    10. toggling off the High Dynamic Range setting and LUT’s in the setting menu of the Lumetri Color panel improves gpu
    11. if you’re using AVHD footage, the cpu could be maxing out. try transcoding with handbrake to quicktime png to test
    12. disable “High Quality Playback” setting in the monitor wrench menu improves gpu
    13. disable mercury transmit
    15. freezing up on mac permission issue
    https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/09/10/premiere-pro-cc-freezing-on-startup-or-crashing-while-working-mac-os-x-10-9-and-later/
    16. disable/remove soundcard if all else fails
    17. CC 2014 playback is better, well maybe a little…

i am 99% sure you damaged your gfx card. Please do a burn in test of hardware components and then get back to us.

    ok, thanks
Now I’ll spit-ball some more possible solutions at you in order of likelihood.

    1. cleaning media cache files or resetting preferences?
    2. download a monitoring program that tells you what is maxed out, your disk cache speed, cpu, gpu, RAM, etc. That should narrow down the problem.
