    Hi,
    I guess that’s what I’ll do.
Can you tell me anything about using the unwrapped avchd files that are not converted to anything else. As I said, they don’t play back smoothly in my timeline, but on the other hand the files are much smaller than ProRes, so if I could work with them easily it would be nice.
Also, dvcprohd files are smaller than ProRes. Any reason not to use them?
I’m very familiar with editing in the SD world but new to AVCHD, so excuse me for any dumb questions!

    Thanks; that helps a lot.
So is there another way to get small files to edit with?

The silver GH2 with 14-42mm lens is now listed as being in stock at B&H.

  • Yes, this sounds better than the other alternatives mentioned, in my price range. But I saw this video (link below), and it looks like the cheap rig it shows will suit my needs, IF I can switch to it quickly from my tripod. Has anyone tried this one? I suppose if I can attach to this the same kind of quick-release-plate-holder that is on my tripod, but I don’t know how to search for that. Thanks for all the help guys.

  • Thanks for the info, but I should have clarified that the $500 budget includes the $300 for a tripod. I’ve seen some shoulder rigs advertised for well under $100, such as the Adorama model, but it’s not clear from the ads whether I could use a quick release plate that would also fit on my tripod. Just wondering what people have tried..

    Hi,
I monitor with a headset and yes, the AF signal is bouncing way over to the right and I get the squealing you get from a mike that is way too hot. Obviously too sensitive at -20, but I wonder what changed because it wasn’t before.
Since writing the post I have experimented with different receiver settings and now I see that I can get -20 for the transmitter to not distort, but only by using the lowest receiver settings. I used to find that -20 was a good setting for the transmitter for most situations, but with the receiver set at something like 0 instead of way down at the bottom.
I also noticed the audio forums after I posted and I may try posting over there as well.

I see the wind blowing their hair and their sleeves rippling; it looks like the wind has to be hitting the mike pretty hard. The mike doesn’t even look like it has much of a wind filter on it. Maybe there is some kind of sophisticated frequency filter? Anyway, I guess whatever they do costs a bundle..
