Yes, Premiere Pro 2 uses an incarnation of the Inscriber Title Motion app that used to be in Discreet edit*. Once you have worked with it you are spoiled for NLE titling tools forever!! I have been wanting and asking for this titling functionality ever since FCP 1!!

Unfortunately you still can’t do a box and text in Title 3D. Presently you do have to go to Live Type or Motion to do this.

Thanks for the suggestion Ryan! I already have it set up this way though, and the import always defaults to 720 X 486 8-bit. I used to have it set up to go into AE, but I found the integration feature to Motion much more to my liking and workflow.

    Sigh..

I really miss Titlemotion as well!! PP2 still has the Inscriber front end, but the bomb was Titlemotion with edit* (as well as Speed Razor!)…

My only complaint with the integration so far is that the different pixel aspect ratios and bit rates don’t seem to survive the trip from FCP to Motion. I tried “sending” clips from three different projects/timelines (an 8bit, 10 bit, and an HD 1080i) and they all showed up as 720×486 – 8 bit in Motion. It seems you have to reset all the parameters in Motion to match the clips you import from FCP.

The reason I need keyframing in Motion is of course for those times I need “exacting control” over specific attributes and functions that would require less time than “playing around” with the app. After awhile all the keyboard shortcuts for FCP, PPro, AE, Combustion, Boris Red, Shake, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Lightwave, 3DStudio Max, Maya, Particle Illusion, Mirage, Vegas, Acid Pro, Sound forge etc. all kind of become a mind-numbing blur and to have to look up yet another shortcut in yet another 300 page manual while trying to quickly finish a client project (started by the client in Motion) becomes quite a chore. That is why I was desiring a quick answer from those who have used Motion more than I have. The reason I like the Cow is I can get quick answers to specific questions in all these programs, and I also readily help others who don’t know other apps as well as I do. Thanks for the help, guys..

I have used the HC-HR1 cheap Sony HDV camera for both capturing and time-coded dubs for clients for several months now. As Graeme says, there is no difference in quality, and the tape transports are the same in both units. I am actually using the component cable out for full uncompressed 1080i HD capture through an AJA LH card, and skipping the firewire/HDV conundrum altogether. The small cheap camera is the way to go! Save your money for a real HD camera!!

  • This is the “devil’s bargain” made years ago when Bill Gates rescued Apple from the abyss by infusing mucho capital. Better learn to live with it Arnie! Not having to buy software anymore for two separate operating systems would be a definite plus!
