Actually I could mention quite a bit more here, but the point is posters should stick to the thread and keep their personal political “grindings” out of the postings here at the Cow. Politics has no place here. This etiquette has been mentioned more than once in these forums.
As far as the original poster’s question, this “rights” issue has been beaten to death even in this very same forum over and over again on the Cow (just do a search), and the answer always is, whoever has the better lawyer and deeper pockets wins. Case in point, Peter Jackson versus the greed Masters at New Line….

Wow, I honestly can’t believe Steve Wargo put that in one of his responses. Until now, I always really looked forward to his comments and feedback. Jane actually lives only 30 miles from me and is quite an amazing woman who selflessly contributes her time and money to quite a few very worthwhile projects and causes. If you have a political beef, what she did so many years ago pales in comparison to what the current residents of the White house have lied about and gotten away with for almost 8 years now.

I always have my cell phone with me, and am always therefore “in the office.” All my best clients know the studio direct number, and all numbers are tied into a system like Tim mentions, so I always get voicemail notification from either number on my cell. I actually have gotten most of my best paying professional jobs from my QWEST yellow pages ad on the web. HD shoots from London and Hong Kong clients, HD posting jobs from LA, NYC, Denver and Chicago. That is the only reason for me to keep a yellow pages ad each year, as all the local calls are grinders and people wanting a job in video production!

The system is completely broken.
I for one think every American should have a right to quality health care. This is supposed to be the most advanced country in the world. If even a fraction of our taxes went into a “health fund” and most of it wasn’t totally flushed away by bad decisions and bad governing like it is today, I feel a lot more people would be a little less reticent to see their hard earned dollars being torched in front of their eyes every April 15th. At least they would be guaranteed good health care.
There are many doctors who are VERY tired of dealing with all the paperwork, middlemen, and slow reimbursement due to all these HMOs, and insurance companies always trying to duck out of covering anyone truly needing the services they paid the companies to cover. I would also say stay away from NASE. I had my initally affordable rates go up three times in one year with no claims. I finally gave them the boot when I had a $5K deductible and they still wanted $450.00 a month.

I think that statement needs to be changed to “it can look good if it is SET-UP RIGHT.” Projecting a DVD is a crap shoot at any film festival unless your DVD is set up properly from bars and tone, hooked up component out of the projector, the projector is properly set up for either interlaced or progressive, it shows proper aspect ratio etc. etc. Few film festivals take the time, have experienced enough “projectionists” or care to to set up every film they show from DVDs at a festival. I saw one of my films played via DVD at 12 different festivals, and it looked (and sounded!) different in every single venue. I use the analogy of going into to a Best Buy, Circuit City etc. and seeing the wall of tvs, every one looking different than the next. Same old NeverTheSameColor (NTSC)twice dogma apply here. Set-up is critical and most film festivals don’t have the time or inclination to set up playback properly for HD, SD, Betacam, DVD or DV. I truly believe someone could make a fortune from a simple black box that could set audio and video levels automatically from color bars and tone fed into it, specifically designed for the film festival market…
