Strictly speaking you are right. My Digi Beta won’t work without a ref. On the other hand, in small installations, the avids make can survive quite happily without. The problem is that I have editors working off HD and SD on the same videohub at the same time. The video hub has only one ref input. BM tech support says to me that a Tri-level ref should cover both in theory. That, for the moment, is not my expierence. I have found that by taking the ref off the videohub, I no longer have this issue and the digibeta is still happy.

Yet, in the end, I will find a tri-level solution as it will become increasingly essential for all my installations

Looks like this is a ref issue. When you have SD ref with HD signal, I seem to get the result. In theory, i need to have a ref but as the whole system is SDI, in reality, I don’t need a ref, particularly for multi-format work.

Retro grading back to 4.2 has globally done the trick.

Many thanks for all this info. The Rossetta stones I have are made pridominately by Datamate, but I have Addenda too. This set up has been running without problem for over 3 years without the Videohub and works perfectly when I connect the Avid directly to my Digibeta. Therefore I conclude that I have a BM Videohub issue.
I will try to retro grade the version to see if this solves the issue. I really hope so. …. Or maybe BM will post a rectified version today (probably not).

Here is the resume of my findings.

HP 8600 – No connection possible either with the Keyspan USB – RS232 or directly with the DataPort box. Both connections are live

Z400 – Intermittent connection possible using Keyspan USB – RS232 but check decks does not work. I can only connect by using a manual config and after many attempts.

I have 6 suites all connected to the Videohub that I cannot digitise out dump from. This is nothing short of a disaster. Please can someone at BM put on line a fix very quickly or an old install so I can now use my installation. For that matter, I can only find a mac download on the BM website.

I have been running 2 studio videohub for 2 years in a live TV show. They have each locked up once. The videohub is excellent value for money but I would not consider it as reliable as more expensive alternatives. I would not install it is as a main studio patch as it run very hot and it been known to make patching errors. For a small post-prod facility that is not live, it is a good option.

Having read around and tested, I see that Sony clip browser reads the files without needing the MEDIAPRO.XML. Sadly, the Avid AMA uses the MEDIAPRO.XML file and does not see the mp4 files. Therefore any idea on how to create the MEDIAPRO.XML file automatically?
