  • I just encountered this for the forst time today. Anyone find a solution ?

  • I have the Quadro 4000 mac and as I just purchased the 12 core, I now also have the ATI HD5770. I am powering 2 x Apple 27″ monitors off of the Quadro right now. (I am a premiere Pro 5.5 user). So what you are saying is that I am better off with just the Quadro, as opposed to having the Quadro for GPU duties and the for ATI powering the Displays?

Bob, I am so with you on this!

I do have the Quadro 4000 card also, and it does give a bump, but not enough.

I also have the 2.66 Mac Pro 4.1 Quad core (16G Ram) with an internal Raid. I tried to edit a couple of projects with H264 but the stuttering was just too much to be workable, so for now I convert to ProRes.
I am thinking about upgrading to either the top of the line 8 core or the 12 core, but I don’t want to blow $6K only to find that when working with H264 it still does not run smoothly. I know its not an editing codec, but if you throw a bunch of processing power at it does that become a non issue ?
I thought of going the PC route, but I have to much invested in Mac at this point for that to be an option.

I was talking with a rep at B & H who said that the Matrox Compress HD Card improves performance considerably. I wonder if anyone out there has experience with this card in a mac, and can speak to how the card improves overall system performance in Premiere Pro 5.5?

Sorry for all the questions! Are you able to edit h264 without stuttering issues with your system?

Thanks for the info Tom, I appreciate it.
Are you also thinking of moving to a widows machine?

Thanks Tom. Its all very frustrating. I have been with mac from pretty much the beginning, and it seems the like as a company they are throwing the pro user under the bus.
