Oh that’s easy! I do 90% from the tangent panel over on the left. When I sit there scopes are right where I want them. Only time I need to be infront of the davinci controls is to do the few thing like points on a power window or such. Basically things I can’t do from the panel. Now if I could hit a key and make one of the trackballs be
A hsl selection and also a mouse mode then I would be very happy!

I use the scopes on a second monitor. I would love to have them in one combined window that you can resize or say fit to screen. They seem picky.

If you look how i have the scopes in the “scopes and control surface” picture you will see what I mean.

Kim as for grade on / off It took me a while to find it.but if you happen to have a wave its up and down arrow. Or if you get some kind of mapped button external usb box that lets you map keystrokes to a button for example You can set that to up and down arrow. Hell even a cheap gaming controller with macro buttons might work. Least that lets you create shortcuts for many of the functions.

  • I’m not sure but I seem to remember that you won’t have enough power leeds and that you might overload the power supply if you try to branch them off and split them. I could be wrong but I think that is the main issue.

Yes I can confirm that renders have a ton of junk lines through them. in Lion. Grading seems fine but output is an issue.

  • I too would like to know this as well. I have been grading in a rather conservative way. Keeping my level down using soft clipping etc. Though it always feels like I have one hand behind my back. Am I fighting the system? I try to keep to legal levels and use soft clipping to bring it back. Would I be able to just do what ever i like then add in some soft clipping to just roll it off even still out of range. then apply the output lut?
I always thought It was better to grade with everything nice and in range but then work with in that.

    Thoughts?

If you can’t get a neutral wall because of the bricks you could surround it with gray poster board or something. Making it tasteful of course. But the idea is that anything white or black or non neutral grey will mess up your color sense as well as your contrast sense. Alexis does talk about this in both as a guest on Taoofcolor.com podcasts with Patrick as well as in his book. I even have in place the 6500k lume lights on the back of the plasma to reduce eye fatigue as well as providing good light to grade with. If you are grading for a theater release you will have a pretty dark suite but TV and broadcast you should have some light. Pref. Daylight balanced. Don’t want to mix light temp. in the room either.
Here is a link to the Lume lights I used:

That is a panasonic pro plasma series 11. I have it going to the Decklink card using HD-SDI and Yes its been Calibrated. Love it so far. Nutreal gray backdrop to not mess-up my luma / chroma vision.

Here is my current setup. I wish we could use one of the wave balls for mouse moves!!!!
I’d love to qualify HSLs and make points for power windows with the wave rather then reaching over to the right side for it past my keyboard!
