Yes this issue happens when the media is completely rendered. I tested clips that played off of my local drive which gets about 900 MB/s read and write. The issue also occurs in AJA tv so its not just localized to Premiere. There is no mixed up timeline or anything else like that. Just 1080p, 23.98 ProRes HQ clips in a sequence with the exact same settings.
When I first playback on the Flanders Scientific the video chokes and stutters for a moment and then there is this odd “catchup” period where is speeds up for brief moment faster than real time and then it simply continues to play completely out of sync. Normally I can scrub through the timeline just fine without any hiccups but once I turn on the AJA box and the Flanders these issues start happening. It’s very frustrating. Apple doesn’t know why, AJA doesn’t know why, Flanders Scientific doesn’t know why, and Adobe doesn’t know why and they all kind of blame one another. This same issues happen on both Mac Pros. I have the same exact setup on 2 machines and I have had to turn them both off.New Mac Pro, 10.9.3, Adobe CC 2013, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB internal SSD

I actually have audio coming though a Focusrite Scarlet box. I had audio going through the ioxt but it was even worse. I picked up the Scarlet box because it also has a handy volume knob and i can sit right in front of me. I have 2 Genelec studio monitors running to it and it works awesome. I have not upgraded to CC 2014 yet, still on CC 2013.

Thanks a lot for the information everybody. I’m going to go with a solution from Small Tree. They were very helpful and explained how it all works. They even took the time to explain why their solutions were superior to much cheaper NAS systems. I appreciated that and they earned my business. They also didn’t assume anything and asked questions to understand my needs. I am certainly not an IT guy, I work mainly as a cinematographer and motion designer but never understood much about shared storage but I’ve learned a lot the past few weeks.
Bob someone mentioned earlier that you represent one of these companies that does this kind of thing. I’m not sure if that’s true or not but if it is you have a TERRIBLE (I can use all caps too) way of dealing with people. You totally could have grabbed my business. Oh well, I’m sure you don’t care.

Go back and work at Walmart? Dang dude chill. I mentioned that I was very ignorant about this kind of stuff and was humbly seeking advice. I hope you don’t communicate with people in person like that because it would be a quick way to get your ass beat. I’m interested in information not insults.
I failed to mention previously that both of us are on mac pros and use adobe premiere. I cut native r3ds just fine at about 1/4 Rez. I obviously don’t need 10gbe of bandwidth for two people but what would the real world throughput be for 1gbe? Is there something in between? Also let’s say for example we go 1gbe is the bandwidth split in two if two people are working at the same time? -
I have the stock gpu card that came with my mac pro. It’s a ATI Radeon HD 2600 and I have a 24″ HP monitor hooked up to it. When I run the BM speed test I get 282 MB/s write and 285 MB/s read speed. Scrubbing clips in the color tab and the source is no problem. Don’t get me wrong I do not get real time playback without sending to the render cache but I can scrub just fine. Does Davinci automatically use the most powerful GPU? I should also note that I have the Quadro 4000 in slot 1 and the Radeon card in slot 2. Don’t know if that matters or not.
This is what is so weird. I can work in the color tab all day long without any problems. Performs flawlessly. Its only when I try and scroll thru thumbnails above the timeline that it crashes without fail. It makes it impossible for me to advance to further clips to work.

2009 Mac Pro, OSX Lion, 24 GB Ram, working off a 6 TB RAID 0 i created with three internal WD black caviar drives. I have a quadro 4000 for mac gpu. Being Davinci Lite I am working with a 1080p timeline and working with mostly 2k RED over cranked footage. I have very few 4k shots mixed in. Another one of my projects has dslr 1080p footage and the crash happens there as well.
I just now attempted to repeat the crash and it crashed 3 times with out fail within seconds repeating the process I mentioned earlier.

I have 6 submenu pages and the timeline to which they are associated already has the menu setup to return to last menu but it still wants to return to the 1st submenu page despite the user being on a different page. I don’t believe this actually works.
