I should clarify that this was an attempt to digitize over firewire directly from the sony deck.
And so the Film/24p configuration was set to get the A frames from 00 TC.
One thing I should mention is back on the Avid’s forum someone reminded me that
if motion is NOT having jittery on a broadcast monitor that means it was shot in standard pulldown.
Well, I am going to consider it and re-make some more tests since I didn’t shoot it myself
and, the director-friend who brought this in, might have been misguided on this matter.
Motion looks too smooth to be Adv. PD, so I’ll give Std. PD a try, it won’t hurt.
One more thing to consider though is that I am pretty shure the tests I have made with normal PD (or standard) rendered a digitized 23.976 clip that does NOT have 24 unique frames ( some of them were duplicated ) and I am uncertain if this is O.K. Can someone confirm this?
Because of this duplicated frames issue, I didn’t try to digitize longer clips to try Std PD out yet.
The artifacts I am reporting are not what is considered jittery, but likely a “digital drop-out”.
This is strange behaviour indeed. I’ll see if an update to 2.8.4 helps with this,
but I’m inclined to try the original camera to test from there.
Until then I am looking forward to get any input if someone can think of something else.
I appreciate all the efforts and all the suggestions you have made to help me with this.
Keep them coming, I still need them.
Holy Cow!
