This is not a c300 problem. The transcoding works fine in other versions of Avid (i´ve tested it in thoroughly), but on MC7 i´m having huge problems with what you are describing. Has anyone made progress with this?

Hi rolf, quick question:
I once again had to give preview files to an external logger and this time I gave him the preview files and a cataloge, not an archive. And now he has problems viewing anything. What exactly are the correct mapping and settings for him to relink the files?
By the way, love the product and your customer support.

December 20, 2010 at 3:27 pm in reply to: XDcam EX MXF´s to Final Cut using Automatic DuckNo luck unfortunately. If i send the files with “use existing media” the files come up as unreadable with a Duck Screen on the material
Tried sending the files without using the existing media and then
installing Calibrated MXF Codec to read the Avid files natively, but the Duck takes the name of the files from AVID project. Those files are named like: 16_2131_01.new01, but the files that exists in finder are named something like 16_2131_01NDF38SFNA, ergo final cut cant find them.Sending the project using “use existing media” and with the option “Use original imported graphic files” checked, actually relinks GoPro and Canon to the original .mov files automaticly, but I have to reconnect the .mp4 files manually one and one, because there are so many Reel and name errors when reconnecting. And we have about 500 clips in every episode…
Now i´m a bit lost, and considering just to do the mastering and color correcting in Media Composer, unless there are somebody here with a better solution…

December 16, 2010 at 7:45 pm in reply to: XDcam EX MXF´s to Final Cut using Automatic DuckThat was the thing, I was looking for someone who tried it themselves before buying Duck, but heck, we need it anyways. I´ll try it out tomorrow and post my results.

December 16, 2010 at 6:55 pm in reply to: XDcam EX MXF´s to Final Cut using Automatic DuckHaha, we really have some Ninja problems at our office, I told the janitor to take care of it. But no, I had some problems with logging in, and some of my text disappared. The rest of it was supposed to be:
“I deliver the master file in ProRes 422 HQ.Transcoding the material two times is one too many for my taste, but I did some thorough testing using regular export, and I don´t see any quality loss on my broadcaster monitor.
Any comments? Better suggestions?”
Yup, Avid makes XDCAM EX MXF´s. We transcoded the gopro and the canon material and consilidated the XDCAM stuff, it´s been fine for editing. I talked to one of the techicians at the broadcasting channel and he told me it shouldnt make any difference. So then we just went for XDCAM MXF´s to save space.

Yes your right. I´m sorry. Just a bit frustrated on being forced into Avid in a short amount of time after using Final Cut my for years and learning to know that in and out. Thanks anyways

Hi Shane, thanks for your great help, have been using the day for some experimenting. But as I´m brand new to AVID (1 day) and the guy who knows Avid at the office is extremly busy, I would greatly appreciate if you could go some steps with me.
First of all, disk space is´nt that big of an issue. I have the material and I´m going to write to firewire 800 disk. Buying a couple of more them is not a problem, as i prefer to stay online all the way.
What tool in Avid do you use for transcoding? I found one way but not with the options DNxHD36, or 15:1. Just want to make sure i get it alright
Second, is DNxHD like AVIDs equal for ProRes? How is it for grading? And while i´m at it: Do you know if it´s possible to take a Avid sequence into Color? Our client wants it delivered as: MPEG-2 422 Long GOP@50Mbps (XDCAM HD422).
Thanks in advance, Christian

Ok, thanks for the advice. From what i tested so far, the Imac is having serious problems when loading different clips onto a big timeline. I´m brand new to Avid, so what method should I use? And what´s the best Avid codec? Is it sufficient to just transcode H.264 and the GoPro material and use just AMA for the XDcam footage? Or, Avid reads this natively right?
