[Alvin Seah] “Thanks. You’ve got some pretty good stuff at Sugar too :)”
Thank you.
Is the building paint effects the prest buildings that came with Maya 6? Did you animate the growth functions to achieve their growth or was it more in-depth than that?
I take it you modeled a rose and like you said, hand animated each petal?
Would you say that the majority of the work was in AE where as 3D (Maya) was more of a support function to generate certain elements?
On your website is other great stuff. Like the video you did for Ahli Fiqir. Was that primarily AE?
Even the building walls shifting and the whole house collapsing into a book?

Questions:
1. Was the footage of the band shot motion control or tracked? Or were they sepearate planes in 3D space and the parallax change was just the AE camera moving?
2. The Rhinos. Did you guys do the animation? If so was the camera data shared between the 3D app and AE. Or was it a “Locked” cam in 3D and the rhino layer is simply in AE 3D space and the AE cam does the movement?
3. What was your methods of doing layer reveals? Masks? Ink spill footage? Hand paint?
4. Your methods for the text write-ons? AE Write-on or AE Stroke? Other?
5. Bird Flocks, Dust, B&W discs…Particular?
6. The roses growing looks more authentic than just a mask reveal. Technique? Actual timelapse? Hand animation? Maya Paint Effects?
7. Trees and Building growth technique?
8. What was the hardest, most rewarding element in this project?

er…use a black light 🙂
You can color correct all you want, but it won’t do the exact same thing as the way a black light reascts with certain phospherous surfaces.
You can probably get black light tubes that are compaticle with Kino banks. Or even Kino tube filters that turn them into Black lights.

I’m not an expressions guru at all, but I wonder if you put a well placed ‘-‘ in the expression if it wouldn’t count down backwards? Worth a try maybe.

Ah yes, welcome to the wonderful, yet time consuming land of roto. Best to do background research on rotoscoping and tracking.
Search the Cow archives of the last few years with the search word ‘roto’.
It’s the art and technique of using masks to define areas of moving images so they can be isolated and treated separately.

Sure. Duplicate the footage. On the duplicate, Mask the area you want to glow. Add the stylize>Glow effect. Change the colors to what you want the glow colors to be. Play with noise or particles for sparkles.
There are a ton of ways, but that is the very most basic way.

Having a hard time following. Try adding a mesh warp to the person who will reshape. Put them over the other person and half the transparency (or put in screen transfer mode) so you basically can onion skin over the other person. Set a keyframe. Move in time to where you want them to warp. With the warped figure over the normal figure, reshape the points on the mesh warp to fit the figure on top of the other figure. The idea is to keyframe the mesh warp so the figure morphs from normal into the shape of the other.

Well a stop is either half or twice as much. So if you did an overall brightness adjustment, drop the value by half.
If you are using levels, it’s not so cut and dry because it depends on how you want it darkened. Do you want to drop the gamma? Crush in the blacks?
Why do you need to change it by exactly by a stop as opposed to what looks good?
