Well, i’m a little confused myself on that one. In previous versions of Decklink, it alowwed you to switch on “Use QT legacy” which means that if any quicktime program at all (inclusing the QT player) is playing a QT it will output it to the monitor. But in newer versions, it’s greyed out for me. So I may be missing something. But at any rate I usually do a RAM preview. Then when happy, I render out and add it to the timeline in FCP or DS to watch it in context with the rest of the footage.

Well, not necessarily. Attention doesn’t always = profits. In many advertising books they point out that advertisement can in fact promote less sales for your product if done incorrectly. So ads don’t range from no effect to positive effect. They range from negative effect to positive effect. So the wrong advertisement is the same as paying lots of money to turn people away from your product.
sorry. my .02 😉

if you do a RAM preview it should play back through your monitor rather than bothering rendering to a QT.

There is a DS learning version that has no output tool. But be warned, DS is a full system that is waaaaaay more complex than just a node tree. But it will let you play around with it to get an idea of it.

then ‘Avid DS Learning Edition’

March 8, 2006 at 1:54 pm in reply to: What happened to the Copy>paste option from illustrator to AEIn the prefs there is a setting for copy/paste data. If it’s in the newer version (pdf i think?) it won’t work. Must set it to the older version. You’ll see what I’m saying. Sorry i’m not in front of AI right now so I can’t give you the names of everything, but thought I’d point you in the direction.

There is no magic color paint that is the best color for keying. We’ve shot greenscreen elements with the most optimum color paint that was $80 a gallon down to a 12x green grid cloth outside that is about the color of Kermit’s backside. They both keyed perfectly fine. So don’t beat yourself up about it the exact color.
Ideally though it’s a green that once you get your footage into your compositor and you sample the green BG (or blue or red bg) that the color is electronically pure. So for green it would sample as R0, B0, G255 in 8 bit color anyways. But this may never ever happen so don’t sweat it.
Remeber a key is just for the very edges between the subject and the screen. So if there are parts of the image that the subject will never touch, don’t waste time lighting or painting that area. It will just be garbage masked out anyways.

You may be thinking of how a lot of motion graphics are AI comps broken into layers, brought into AE, then moved around in z space and the cam sees the flat layers in a 3D world.
