Changing a .ai layer to 3D, giving it depth
Hi all,
My first post here…
I did try to search for results but I am probably using the wrong words 🙁My problem is:
I create a shape in illustrator, like for example a ring, then i put it in after effects, but how can I change the depth of this layer. I know it has no depth atm,but is there a way to change that? Thanks for any help and advice.GReets,

You need to buy Zaxwerks Invigorator, or Digital Anarchy’s 3D layer.
AE does not do depth, unless you want to fake it with the Shatter effect. You have to mess with that effect to get what you want, so check out the Shatter tutorials on the COW.

Ai … darn ok… Ill have to look into that or perhaps I’ll try 3ds max, and just create that stuff in 3D hehe. Might be better. Thnx !

does AE 7 come with Zaxworks or similar?

You may be thinking of how a lot of motion graphics are AI comps broken into layers, brought into AE, then moved around in z space and the cam sees the flat layers in a 3D world.

I remember AE 6.5 came with invigorator or something on an extra disk? or mail order? ?? I thought maybe AE 7.0 came with it as well…….
