Hey Mitch,

I’m miffed about this for another reason. I bought Encore for Mac about two months ago with the intention of creating some interactive Flash stuff with it, and it won’t work because of some QT conflicts, which looks to be far from resolved.

Understand, just remember that H264 is not a production codec in professional work.

I have never used AIC, and I don’t understand why you are including H264 as an option for workflow, as it is a delivery codec. Basically, HDY is a great capture format, but lousy for editing, because of it’s GOP structure among other things.

ProRes is compressed, but you can’t tell by looking at it, and it is one of the leading working formats in use, rivaling 10 bit uncompressed in quality.

I don’t know anyone in here who uses AIC, and doubt may are still using native HDV, with the introduction of PreRes.

There are two excellent papers in here on ProRes by Tim Wilson, suggest you read.

The simple answer is, use HDV and make your sequence compressor ProRes.

Or, if you’re drives can handle it, capture to ProRes via FireWire in the first place.

You don’t have to go through all this, all you have to do is change your compressor in the DV sequence to 8bit, render and you’re done. Go to Sequence>settings and change the compressor drop down.

Leopard works great on my MBP, but I STRONGLY recommend you do a clean install of Leopard. Pain in the ass to re-install all the other stuff, but worth it.

You can downconvert the HDV to DV, but if the DV was shot 4×3 you will still have an issue to deal with. Your HDV camera likely has a downconvert feature in the menu, and you would just use FireWire for both.

Of course you’ll have to render as your clips don’t match and the TL has to be one or the other.
