Hi Mark, thanks for the comment. I don’t think we have access to roof. We ended up going with curtains. They were obviously a quick solution, and they worked well I think. I’ll send you a link to the result in a few days.

Thanks for the help everyone. I understand now how the disappearance of my arm is really a form of motion blur. I won’t attempt to shoot in this location again with that bright background. It was too much trouble.

…the window behind is so bright that it’s just overpowering the brief exposure of your arm waving around…

Someone once explained to me that light will “wrap around” you from behind, it is too bright. I guess that is what you mean. However, I’m not sataisfied with the physics of this explanation. Doesn’t light travel in a straight line?

Yes, it isn’t shutter speed alone. I’m doing 24 frames per second. Somehow, the bright window is combining with shutter speed to do this.

  • I’m new to the subject of color accuracy, but my understanding is that the best solution to the problem here (“Premiere program monitor looks VERY different to the exported video”) is to buy a color accurate external monitor and a UltraStudio Mini Monitor, and look at your work there. That is the best you can do, as I understand it. It looks like you can get the equipment for under $1000. That might be a good use of money, if it saves you the time of futzing around with Look up tables, ect. I am shopping now for a color accurate monitor, because all this talk of LUTs is just over my IQ level.

  • Also, I find it easier to control gain. I just press “g” and then enter a number with up to two digits of precision. Hell of a lot easier than working with rubber bands, or opening up volume in effects.

  • I still trying to figure out gain vs volume. What I find is that if I need to make a big increase to the final volume, it is best done by giving it a big boost in gain, and then fine tuning volume. Sometimes it just isn’t possible to get all the increase I want from volume.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. I learned a lot about rendering. As for my original problem, I was seeing a black artifact that flashed on my screen. I saw it when it played in my timeline, and I saw it when I exported to Youtube. In the timeline, it sometimes appeared, and sometimes it didn’t; it wasn’t repeatable. On youtube, it always appeared. I believe the source of it was that I had two video tracks that were supposed to fade in at the same time. One track had a dip to white at the start, and the other hand a crossdissolve at the start. They should have both been dip to white. I think this discrepancy created the problem. When I rendered it, the problem went away. When I changed that both fades to dip to white, the problem went away. Thanks again for your help.

The black specks are flightly and unpredictable, but I will try to hunt them down with a screenshot. I’ll get back to you soon.

Thanks Jeff, for getting back to me. Yes, I have a green screen in the video, so I am doing a key. However, I’m not certain that the black bits are at the same time as the green screen. The black bits are flighty, like UFOs, but I will try to find them and get a screen shot of them. I’ll get back to you in a couple hours.
