In our case the media is offline. We have the editor deliver us an Avid Bin with locked sequence and open that to create AAF’s.

I am assuming that if one were to have media online on a system that runs both Avid and Resolve that media would relink without having to force conform but that’s just not going to happen with the workflows we encounter with our clients.

Peter, we have the same issue with AAFs from Avid and have posted before about this. No answers from the peeps at BM.

We create the AAF ourselves from Avid Project with offline media and this happens 100% of time for all media not just R3Ds.. It’s a total bummer. If there are a lot of repos we usually use force conform to relink to clips as it’s faster to do that than conform to edls and manually execute each repo to matc offline.

Wish this could get figured out as it limits the feature greatly.

Even though we try and use AAF and XML’s to conform, we always export corresponding edl’s to use in Browse to split and add only selects to media pool. Then you have a nice neat media pool and can even copy media to local drives before conforming.
    This is for v8.

    Hey All,

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the tardy response.

    We’re running v8.2 on a MacPro 4.1 Quad 2.66, 24GB memory with GT120/Quadro 4000. Fast external fibre drives.

Any recommends on hardware improvements or software upgrades to get realtime PB?

I’ll plug Steve Shaw’s Light Space software for anyone consistently needing to convert LUT’s to a more friendly format or provide LUTs to others in different formats.

Re: Labs and film out LUTs – the money they make on prints can far outweigh DI color rates. That’s why the big houses will give such good deals if it means millions of dollars in domestic and international print orders. That’s one gravy train lots will cry over when DCP’s are all that’s left.

August 2, 2012 at 4:20 pm in reply to: V8 Q – Moving Clips and Changing Parent Directory

Think I’m starting to see a pattern in that you can only do a multi clip “change directory” if all the clips selected are currently sharing a common file path. Example – all the RED footage clips are in unique R3D folders per source structure so I can only do one clip at a time. All the F3 footage is in a common folder so I can perform multi clip changes to the parent directory.

I sure hope v9 fixes this. Working with only R3D selects wil be great that’s for sure…

Wonderring if switching from DaVinci YRGB to ACES color space and using the appropriate ODT would do the trick. It’s about as close to how NUKE runs things through as it gets. I have not worked with exr’s yet myself so would be curious to know what your solution winds up being.

I wish you could control input sizing in conform menu as it’s best place to try and manually match a resize from ref cut provided. One of the few UI frustrations I have.

It’s certainly a big buzz kill given the situation. I have to decide what will take less time between conforming edls as layers and manually matching repos or using an AAF anf force conforming shot by shot.

I’d call this a big ticket item to get straightened out.

    Hey Peter,

Yes we are creating AAF’s from Avid project with offline media.

We usually have clients just give us an Avid Bin Project with locked cut so we can generate what we need as well as look under the hood. Now at least I know this is an issue. Problem with this AAF and XML read/write problems is that Avid will say it’s on BM and vice versa. From BM’s position it would be great to get this figured out. Thanks again for shedding light.

    Cheers, Chris
