That was it! All the times I checked and rechecked my settings, I never even noticed that option. Thanks for your help!

I have poked around a bit. I have to be honest, I’m not quite sure what to look for. Nothing stands out as an obvious setting that would affect the problem.

Thanks Dave. I just checked, and I am currently up to 9.0.2 in AE, and I have my Multiprocessing shut off (I fought that battle the first couple days I had my computer, and ran into some of your other posts on the subject). I’m about 90% sure that my footage is good to go as well. Any other thoughts? I am really struggling with the idea that a machine with this much more horsepower can’t do things that the old machine could.

Yes, disabling MP is pretty much what I’ve resorted to. I’m just having some trouble reconciling the idea of spending all the money to get this tricked out computer and then having AE run with basically the same settings and RAM as on the old, slow one. Thanks again for your help, though. It has really helped me learn exactly how all these different elements work together.

Thank you both very much for your help. I went back and changed my settings this morning. I left 4 CPUs and 4 Gb of RAM for other processes (I like to run Photoshop as well) and then assigned 2Gb to each of my remaining 4 CPUs, taking up the remaining 8Gb of RAM. AE is still freezing up for 15-30 seconds every time I try to do almost anything (import, add effects, etc.). Did I miss a step in there somewhere? Am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks for your insight, Jeff. This is my first time using MPG-2 video as my menu backgrounds. In the past, I’ve been using the same codec we typically use for our scoreboard computer, which wasn’t giving me the best results. However, after a quick google of GOP, it all makes sense. I made some adjustments to the animation and it’s working great now. Thanks again.
