It helps VERY much! Thanks to you and Lee. I hadn’t even considered that the camera output had settings. I’m an Avid (Broadcast) guy who is used to decks, rack mounted in the suite and already talking to the system. I’m muddling my way through my first few projects in the “new DV world” and Final Cut.

I’m so overwhelmed by the vast amount of choices in Final Cut and the multiple formats and frame rates that when something doesn’t work, I don’t know where to begin. I am reading in my free time (ha ha ha) so I hopefully will be contributing here soon!

    Thanks again,

    Chris

That makes complete sense, thanks! I don’t have the manual but I’m great at stumbling through menus.

    Thanks again!

The difference keyer seems to be the simplest and most direct way. Just duplicate the truck and do a quick roto mask to bring back any holes in the car. That truck isn’t in the shot for that many frames and the motion is constant, should be easy!

You could also check your local news station and see if they have a reporter team that exposes these guys. I work for the ABC affiliate in Washington DC. We have the “On Your Side” team. These guys expose frauds like this and help get the victim’s their money back.

Most bad guys don’t like that much light shined in their dark, dingy corner!

    Good luck!

True! I sort of knew that 😉 (we demo’d a FCP system at my day job, I’ve forgotten a lot)

Unfortunately I inherited this project mid way through the edit. I had to copy the project and all the media (at HDV settings) to my own external drive and pick it up from there. But thanks again for the advice. Hearing from others helps me get a “feel” for FCP.

Cool! I had found that while searching the manual and it’s been working very well. I didn’t know about the difference between marking the clip vs. the sequence, thanks!

Yeah, I’ve been reading up on HDV and how the computer has to complete each frame as it plays (brilliant yet sucky!). I’d love to convert all of the footage to another format but I think I’m dealing with 6 to 8 hours of footage so size and conversion time are an issue!

I’ve found Pro Res and Apple Intermediate to work the best so it sounds like you’re dead on.

I’m an Avid guy and Avid does any conversions you need automatically during import… easy! So learning all the mechanics behind these formats is new to me. Thanks so much for the reply!

That is a very good question! I’ve never thought about it. Try holding down shift, option or control/command while dragging the anchor point with the Pan Behind tool.

Just a guess but it might “snap to center” or something!

Good luck, let me know if it works

Lars is spot on, definitely go with the Y key to take the coordinate guesswork out of the picture. You just grab the anchor point and put it where you want it.

The only problem with that method is if you already have position keframes for that layer. Then I’d use the anchor point property sliders.
