Please.”A bit militant, yes. I’m also interested in some clarification over a show or production company at a network vs. the entire network. Situation one, I can easily understand; situation two would be quite a surprise.

Which major network? I’m not seeing that, but I’ve been busy, so I’m not seeing everything. None of the studios or networks I work for have made that decision. Most of them are either solidly Avid-based, or non-denominational. Maybe we disagree on the definition of a “major network?” I count seven broadcast majors–ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Telemundo, Fox, and CW–plus a half-dozen very substantial Cable franchises like TBN that deserve to be called “Major,” however non-traditionally.
That one of these has now decided to adopt FCP X as its primary promotions NLE is certainly BIG news. So, please, inform us.
Or do I misunderstand? Do you mean a major network has allowed the show you are working on the go FCP X, as opposed to the Network going FCP X?

I think they have to have one there or it will die fairly quickly. Its not geared to take on the upper end of the workstation market, so it has to hit the center to lower end of that market with a little extra oomph. And its design and portability suggest that they know that. So yeah, I think somewhere between 3200 and 3800 for a quad-core, and 3800 and 4200 for a hexa-core. And then the whole thing probably goes up to about 15,000–18,000, fully built, but I don’t think they’ll sell a lot of those.

It’s settled!”
What’s even more amazing is this no longer new version of X will have a switch to turn both the new tracks and the new bins on and off so that everybody will be happy. In fact there is a setting that wil let them be both on and off at the same time. Amazing.

I’m using CC on a large, flashy Sizzle right now, and loving it. I’m still discovering lots of things new to me and am at gee-whiz phase. I’ve gotten to really like the window docking and tabbing, especially on multiple monitors. I love having separate mixers for clips and tracks. I still feel Avid is a slightly better cutter, but part of that might be me blundering in to CC and not approaching it in a more organized fashion. Avid also feels snappier in terms of playback control, but again, that might be an adjustment that I need to make somewhere, but haven’t yet. Overall, its quite good.

I’m finding ProRes works extremely well. In fact, I see no difference in performance at all. Are you finding differently? Or are you working on Windows?
