Actually, the more I think about this, the more I wonder if I wouldn’t rather have my NLE-lite on something like a MBook Air.

iPad has its uses. I can see building an offline sellects reel on it, if I could ever get a useful edlxml off of it. But nothing much more than that. Too small a screen, with my hands too much in the way. The novelty of working that way with any other kind of editorial would wear off very fast. In fact, I have to say–having had an iPad since the beginning–the novelty DOES wear off. I wouldn’t be surprised if the surge in pads drops off in the next few years as they find there place.
Right now, the best thing the iPad does is make for a good controller. It has good virtual mixers that work well with FCP 7, Logic and Protools. Also, I’ve got several interesting controllers for Omnisphere. It is also good for carrying around portfolio work, and to review sellects on the go. If they could get FCP X to work on an iPad AND export edls/xmls, It would be worth $300 to carry it around on an iPad as a video notation/sellects-creation tool.

Ah, fasp transport! I use it all the time through Aspera, which I believe Prime Focus uses as well. Definitely faster.
Last year’s SMPTE conference focused a lot on the virtues as well as the limitations of the cloud. In fact, cloud and 3d were the buzzwords, and the lion’s share of the technical presentations were on these two subjects.
Anyone truly interested, in mass storage cloud issues can find a wealth of relevant papers in SMPTE’s on line library.

Innate presence is actor speak for “know how to love the camera, and how to get the camera to love you back.” All in the eye of the beholder, of course, but I see bankable talent there. And he’s taking the tools he’s got and he is turning them into something. Good for him.

I think the guy’s a hoot, and if he bring a little extra focus to his madness, he might indeed go somewhere. He has an innate presence.

“Unfortunately, not true–at least not yet. Media Composer currently works with only a few cards from AJA and Matrox. The Avid folks, though, seem to be promising a broader array down the line.

LOL. Early on, I read here quite often, and posted some in the early discussion of structure. I still do read here from time to time, which is how I accidentally posted the Avid IBC announcement. I removed it immediately, but couldn’t figure out how to delete it, only how to edit it down to a “w.”
