I just read this in news from IBC:

It seems that Avid is planning an ongoing cross-grade at $1499. It will stay at $995 through Sept.

I wonder if the crossgrade $ increase is there to set the stage for Media Composer 6, which will probably be more attractive to FCP users due to the fact that it will be 64bit.

…AND it will work with current Aja/Blackmagic/Matrox hardware

“Unfortunately, not true–at least not yet. Media Composer currently works with only a few cards from AJA and Matrox. The Avid folks, though, seem to be promising a broader array down the line.

Yes, not true at the moment. What I was alluding to is that it soon will be.
I have had discussions with both parties and not only will it be soon but it will be awesome!
I mainly use BMD devices and look forward to converting from Final Cut Pro to Avid. Preciously I was Premiere Pro and I am not going back there; it was a nightmare!

Agreed! I’m excited about that. The change in Avid management’s perspective is really exciting.

Sam, it’s good you’re going somewhere which works for you. However it shouldn’t be because Premiere Pro was previously a nightmare. It was indeed that for me at times, as well, but it’s been a delight since 5.0 with 64 bits giving much needed stability for long form and Mercury/CUDA providing terrific codec and real time effects. IOW because the past was painful the present may not be…and it may suit your needs.
