The Prius is an overpriced status symbol? I don’t know about that. It starts around 24 or 25 grand, and if you live where I live, where gas is usually a buck a gallon or more over the national average, and if you drive as much as I do–around 22–24,000 miles a year, the Prius begins to seem pretty darn budget oriented. 45-50 mpg sounds pretty good to me.

I have a hybrid–a little Honda CRZ–that lets me gad about up and down the coast, and back and forth to the mountains, without me going broke. Around here overpriced status symbols generally begin at 70 grand plus, have lots of cylinders, and shout “Price of gas? That’s just something I don’t even need to think about.”

I went to the Blackmagic reception last week in Burbank. It was just as you described it, but as far as I could tell, there was no one from Apple. I guess I could have missed them, though.

“This LaCie TBolt drive is my first LaCie RAID, and the first I’ve used for active media. I’ve got mostly G-RAIDs and have personally been quite happy with them, though that they did go through their own rough patch sometime around the Hitachi buy-out. I never experienced it (touch wood) but I watched other people who were using new 2 TB drives curse a lot at the time. It was back in 2010-ish. I think it was a bump in the road, though. My first G-RAID–500 Gigs–is still in service after eight years (touch wood.) I’m also very happy with the 4TB Glyphs I have. They seem very well engineered, and–at the time I bought them–came with very nice cases, though I guess that now you have to pay extra for the case. The earlier foam G-RAID boxes were great cases, too.

When it’s off, you can select audio and video separately and break sync, or trim only one track, but if you hold option and click, it selects the linked audio and video (even if they are out of sync).
It’s really the best of both worlds.
Shift-L is the shortcut, to the little “Chain link” button in the top right corner of every sequence.
“Agreed! This is generally how I work in FCP7. And, it really is the best of both worlds. (And Jeremy, I have to reiterate how happy you made me this morning showing me that TC monitoring box. Too bad about the color-coding, but the box, itself, is enough!)

So, does LaCie have a quality issue? The TB LittleBig drive I bought seems to be working well, as does the TB eSATA adapter. But most of my media drives are G-RAIDS, Glyphs, and OWCs, so, other than a couple of consumer LaCies, I don’t have much experience with them.

I don’t go out of my way to unlink SOT (though I always work in unlinked mode) but so many projects I work on involve stems from a separate source than the video, and all they have in common is a 2 pop and TC (which might or might not have a constant off-set) that those windows have become essential to me.
There’s certainly no shame, btw, in sticking with 7 for another year. I’m pursuing Adobe and Avid, but I’m fairly confident that I’ll be cutting at least something on FCS a year from now.

I second that emotion.
“I think the single little thing that I miss most is the color-coded TC overlay that you can turn on and off in the record monitor. I can’t believe that no one else has something similar. I ignored this for years, but over the last three I’ve come to use it a lot. I find it exceptionally useful.

I wonder how much of it will stay that way now that Steve is gone. I always felt that capriciousness was a direct result of his presence. I’m delighted with the new AppleTV, and was amused to find that its design was rejected by Jobs two years ago. I wonder if Sir Jonathan is newly freed, or now at the mercy of those who don’t quite get him? It will be wild to watch.
