Its being used that way by a lot of people. I am one of them. But to say its “decidedly not consumer” is, to my mind, not accurate. Thunderbolt is also–maybe even more so–an advance docking scenario. It first appeared on decidedly non-pro machines, and works very well as a docking station for those machines. Hook your “air” up to a monitor, and then plug everything else into the monitor. I’m not complaining about Thunderbolt; I find it very useful, but I don’t think it holds up as a clear example of Apple’s dedication to the “Professional.”

I’m not sure about the Fusion drive. How is this better than a discrete SSD for the OS & applications and a second internal HDD for media?
“I think its intriguing, if it works as advertised. I wouldn’t pay an extra $1300 for 250 GB less space, and the idea of paying only $400 more for a 3TB system drive would be a real incentive for me, fusion or no. I think its a terrific idea.

“Agreed. And, of course there is no evidence that he ever actually said it. True, his grandson quoted it once in a conference call, but that was after it became a popular aphorism. Apparently, you can’t find examples of usage before the beginning of the 21st Century. You’d think if such a plum actually existed it would have been in wide use during most of the 20th Century.

No. I think if you were honest about it–and that is the key word here–what you’d be trying to remember is the last time Oliver posted anything about X other than the issues that were potentially keeping him from making his deadlines. Why don’t you check that out? Of course, that’s only been in the last couple of weeks, but memories are what they are.
