yeah listen to these guys. Right now I have a project, and I went in understanding it was all shot 24pA when only, about a 1/3 of it was, by asking the camera operators. I had set it up to be captured in with the 2:3:3:2 pulldown, and it reverted to 29.97 when it had timecode issues(we were under the assumption it was problems with the camera since it had issues stamping the correct timecode to tape).
This thread is really an eye opener especially since they sort of neglected to teach this at my college.
Quick followup question: I decided to see if 24pA footage would play/ work on a 29.97 timeline, (so when I’m done I can drop my several sequences, which obviously will be a mix of 24p and 24pA on a 29.97 timeline, into a master sequence then render it).
Besides the rendering, it seems fine when I play it back (like the motions look right, no frame stuttering, and what not). I’m not planning to print to film, and when I export , I’ll use compressor, so my question is, will the 24pA footage def playback correctly when it has been exported to DVD? I thought it would since it had the advanced pulldown removed when captured.

Ok but but I have quicktime 7 pro, I dont need the mpeg 2 component, correct?

whoops I forgot to add. I can view the dvd footage on my external monitor but FCP wont recognize the dvd player through my DV deck. I tried switching th DV deck to S-video or even video, and FCP still won’t get the dvd signal(video or audio)

I had a question that could be tacked onto this topic. A client gave me half minidvs, and half dvds. I have a Sony DSR-11 deck and final cut pro 4.5. I captured the minidvs fine, but I cant figure out a way to capture the dvd footage. Is it possible to hook the dvd player upto the s-video/rca ins on my deck, then change the capture device preset to non controllable, to capture the dvd footage? Or is my best bet to rip the footage and demux the sound, then import it in?
