And just to be clear, your source footage IS 1080, correct?

It’s been a year since I worked with PP CS6, but I had the same issue. I think the problem is that the BM card doesn’t have hardware scaling, so unless you’re working in an HD project, you won’t get client monitoring of your source.
However, at least for me, when I used the Matrox MX02 mini, it worked beautifully. Again, I’m assuming because the Matrox box had hardware scaling built in?
Anybody confirm?

Freelancers, Learning FCP X might be a good idea…[Darren Roark] “The thing FCPX can do that the others can’t is work with media that is still being imported or copied from another source. You can log footage while it’s still copying. Correct me if I’m wrong, but can any of the others do that? That to me anyway is a big time save”
Yep. Media Composer 7 will transcode in the background while you continue to work in the foreground. As each clip finishes, it comes available in the bin. Flawless so far.

Freelancers, Learning FCP X might be a good idea…Okay, if we’re getting all hot and bothered because one show, or even one network, is going FCP X, I guess that’s each person’s prerogative. Honestly, the thing I’m most excited about is Lightworks coming to Mac in September. I even bought my console on a 1 day 1/2 price sale.
I’m seriously going to cut my next feature with it, just to get my feet wet. Once you get past it’s kinks, it’s pretty slick. And I really LOVE the fact that the whole installer is only something like 80Mb. That’s amazing to me.

I think if you’re in Los Angeles you’d be far better served in the long run by learning Avid and learning it well.

I suppose so, but so rarely do I simply want to trim one side of a cut away from the seam, so I’ve locked R and RR into my mind to get me into a useful trim mode anyway.
I did program trim to tail and trim to head onto my FCP keyboard which is pretty much analogous to Avid’s Top/Tail commands. That’s pretty great.
I also programmed extend edit onto my FCP keyboard to emulate one of my favorite Avid shortcuts.
Coming from Avid I’m a keyboard guy; I prefer to press a key than wear my wrist out mousing around and pressing tools clear off to the side of my timeline. I guess what I’m saying is, I feel like I have to touch a key in either to get it into a mode I actually would USE, so I still don’t see much difference.
And that’s not in defense of either, as they seem pretty much identical once I have my keyboard shortcuts programmed. I can even make FCP trim pretty much like Avid. Although, as you mentioned, Avid does have a few particularly nice tricks up its sleeves (try option-clicking the trim tool after completing a complicated asyncronous trim sometime…)
