    Hi Dave

    — thanks for reply – am aware of that thanks.

……. am not really up to speed with cc versions but seems to me the ray tracing and multiple GPU processing was a great leap forward and I was very disappointed to see C4 lite replace it………

…………….I thought the whole point of the ray tracing in cs6 is that you can get fab results WITHOUT have to use a 3D program … also its very intuitive ( after a bit of practice ! ) and its part of the comp not an imported model …

…………………. I expect I’m missing something but thats what it looks like to me….

Multiple GPUs as well — great idea works really well I think – I know I’m sorting a problem but got some good results earlier with 3 x 580s and a quadro….

August 10, 2016 at 8:39 pm in reply to: Creating 3d virtual set in AE needed.

    Hi Adam

I think this depends on your client ie how long do you have to do the work — if the answer is not long at all then something pretty basic has to do —– however theres a lot lot more thats possible including a full 3D background to comp footage into — or most probably I expect ‘something in the middle’ …..

…. without thinking it though too much heres a few possibilities……

1 ) have more thngs in 3D space even if they are 2d objects eg a floor to ceiling panel that takes images

2 ) have images in more than one place at once

3 ) confine footage animations to artworked screen areas

4 ) have a bigger screen / have more than one screen

5 ) have bolder graphics that are statics on walls / panels

6 ) artwork a bit more detail into background frames

    7 ) use lights more

8 ) use 3d layers ( if not already ) and use lights

    9 ) use logo as a screen

10 ) use a graphics device derived from logo / simply logo colours for transitions from one clip to another – even if its just a few coloured bars

11 ) more detail in flat areas / texture / lighting

12 ) if in cs6 or higher extrude vector shapes to make more detailed 3d environment

13 ) have footage wind on to next clip inside a boudaried screen area – sometimes simple things work better than you might think – eg sometimes just sliding the next clip down from the top or screen over outgoing works well – particularly to add pace…

14 ) drop back image in 3d space revealing other options / zoom back to another option

15 ) change images as seen in mobile phone technology / use similar graphics to make the point……..

16 ) spin on axis to show image on other side

17 ) shoot presenter from side view to add variety

18 ) shoot closer / zoom into presenter if plenty of resolution……………………………………..

    ………………….and loads loads more…………….

    Hi Roei

Many thanks for this info and link which is VERY interesting — shall continue researching into this a bit more.

Have to say though that the method as shown in the clip is very very clunky compared to what I have used before however theres some interesting things in there which maybe I can build upon.

In the meantime if any one has any other ideas on this would be very grateful – the clean bg plate and eraser brush technique is great for fx work.

    — many many thanks Walter – very much appreciated.

    — would be very interested to know if you use a linear colourspace – been reading some very good things about it

    Hi Or

    — when you say ‘projects’ it sounds like they might be project files ( ie not rendered )

    — if this is the case and you are short of time just render them out then use as 2 seperate layers in a new project file –

    — the colour space research was very interesting ( thanks Walter ) and it went into linear versus srgb which was veryinteresting indeed as I have never looked at this before……

Would be very interested to know what other artists use and exactly how to set the render output so it looks right on PAL monitors. ( or do I just leave it as it was before )

    — anyone know of a good tutorial please for how to do frame by frame anim on AE so that you can see before and after frames ( if it can be done )

    — there was a great ‘ buy and sell’ function on Flint that made this very easy but not yet worked this out in AE

    ———— any ideas please ?

    Hi Tero

    — thanks for speedy reply ……

…….. when I view the DPX files the contrast and colours are wrong – when I worked on Flint you had to have the correct colour space on the project file to view input images correctly – maybe it is different on AE – perhaps AE automaticaly sets things up…

…….. or have I just got a naff render — done by a London facility so I cant check it here.

    ——————————————- cheers — chris —
