Hi Ewan
—- not actually done this myself but pretty sure about how to do it as outlined below ( obviously different artists will have different techniques etc ) —–
— suggest…..
1 ) create master artwork in Illustrator if possible then it will stay nice and sharp
2 ) create pin animation and make into pre-comp
3 ) track footage and apply pre-comps —
————- various ways I think – this looks like a useful approach from Andrew at Video Copilot……https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/magic_tracking/

—– not seen the tutorial but assume eye is on a separate layer – if so might be a z space issue —
This happens sometimes on mine if layers are at the same point in z space
If this is the cause just adjust the z position 1 notch to solve the problem making sure the ‘eye layer’ is above the ‘head layer’ in the layer list and also nearer to the viewer in z space —
If they are not 3d layers you can just make them 3d layers without affecting the layout ( if no camera ) and maybe sort it like that ………….. worth a try I think –

Hi Wilmon
——- sorry to be so pessimistic but I think this one is probably pretty much impossible unless your subject is standing very still —
———– I once tried to add some burn marks to an actors trousers on a short clip, with minimal movement, and had to admit defeat — ones brain seem to detect even the slightest spatial mismatch and it never looked quite right whatever I tried….
—-if its an option suggest its more practical to re-shoot – change the clip, or cover over tricky bit with a plant or a post or something ……………….
I reckon it cant be done ……………..

— probably just reverse the keyframes —-c—

— hi Jason — I reckon you can do this with a mask – v quick and easy to test anyway….
1 ) draw mask path along pipes – you do not need to close path
2 ) delete fill and adjust stroke to width of dots and set to correct colour
3 ) go to dashes ( at the bottom ) and set size to 1 – should give dots
4 ) adjust gap to whatever
5 ) go to start and set keyframe on the ‘offset’ box
6 ) render this as a single reference frame ( maybe in a different colour ( ? )
7 ) import as a background to the dots layer just created
8 ) go to end of loop and adjust offset randomly ( probably around 1500 for a 30 second loop) then fine tune it to match where if would be the frame BEFORE the ref frame ( so you dont get a double frame )
—- never done this but reckon theres a fair chance this will give the right result and it should only take 10 mins or so to check it out — good luck …………

Hi Michael
Thanks for pointing this out
I think Andrew Kramer and his team have been a great service to the industry not only in terms of tutorials and software by also very much in terms of attitude and inspiration

— thanks Jeff ! !
———- I know its obvious now you point it out but usually I just never look at these icons – funny how we filter things out sometimes —
————————- much appreciated —–chris —

— thanks Tero — stating to think the 580 will not work with the 780 —- will continue with mu search — maybe get another 780 —
———————————– all the best —– chris —

— thanks for this Tero –
— not sure — depends how you are setup I think
— I know they all have to be Nvidia cards and I have got ok results mixing 3 x 580s and a quadro — just wondering if anyone knows if a 780TI is compatible with the 580s instead of the quadro – cant get it to work ATM.
… am on CS6 and always work in ray tracing mode — think its quicker though this isnt technicaly proven so I could be kidding myself !
